Cool Rides Car Show FUNFEST continued from Page A1 Balloons and some T-shirts will be given away. Yo-Country will serve com- plimentary watermelon fro- zen yogurt from 11 a.m. to noon. Pedro reassures the com- munity there will be plenty of refreshing summer treats, including free bottled water from many vendors, Otter Pops, a beer garden and shade over the seating area in front of the entertainment stage. This year’s entertain- ment features a mariachi band and other live acts. Meanwhile at McKenzie Park, the community is in- vited to take a cruise through automotive history, with a little help from the Hermis- ton Classics Car Club. More than 75 classic cars will be on exhibit from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Car club president Larry Storment said, depending on the weather, he expects cars from Idaho, Washington, California and even Canada. A few years ago the show was on Hermiston Main Street, and Storment remembers how hot it could get on the asphalt. The move to McKenzie Park makes for a cooler event with grass and trees providing a more pleas- ant experience. There will be car-relat- ed vendors selling goods as well as food vendors and live music, and the Hermis- ton Saturday Market will be open nearby. More than 20 awards will be handed out at 2:30 p.m. and Storment says the awards are surprising, “very unique,” and worth coming to see. The 21st annual car show oficially kicks off Friday, July 8, with a poker run and potluck for show entrants starting at 6 p.m. For additional informa- tion, contact Larry Storment at 541-571-4960. Fans in Eastern Oregon will get a chance to meet Moore July 8-9, as she’ll be in Hermiston during premiere showings of “The Dog Lover.” Described as a heart- warming tale of family, love and doing what you believe in, the suspenseful drama is inspired by true events. Moore is cast as the executive director of an organization that rescues animals and lobbies for animal welfare laws. Say- ing she enjoys playing the part of “a bad guy,” Moore describes her character as being a “wolf in sheep’s clothing.” The storyline centers around a young woman go- ing undercover to iniltrate a puppy mill and ends up exposing radical animal ac- tivism. “It’s based on a true sto- ry,” Moore said. “It’s not propaganda, it’s not made up.” Hermiston resident Dave Duquette, equine representative for Protect the Harvest, is hopeful the movie will inspire people to conduct research before donating money or getting involved with causes. Multimillionaire Forrest Lucas of Lucas Oil Products Inc. is the ilm’s executive producer. The Indiana man also is founder of Protect the Harvest, which ights for the rights of America’s $1 16 0 ,00 00 Trr ucck & C ass h G iv vea a wa a y ! Lucas teamed up with Ali Afshar, the movie’s writer/producer, to form ESX Entertainment. The idea was to create a hand- ful of social issue drama feature ilms — “The Dog Lover” is the irst release. Duquette said present- ing information through the ilms provides an avenue to reach a larger audience. “When I go to a horse event or cattle deal or a rodeo, the people in ag- riculture understand,” he said. “I’m preaching to the choir.” Moore was contacted by Afshar — who she met while waiting tables 20 years ago — about doing the ilm. Once she was on- board, she met Lucas and was then commissioned to work on writing and pro- ducing a trio of upcoming ilms with ESX Entertain- ment. “In Hollywood, it’s not what you do, it’s who you know,” she said.
