Merle H. Bartman, 70, of Hermiston died Thursday,
May 5, 2016, in Hermiston. He was born July 13, 1945. A
graveside service with military honors will be held Thurs-
day, May 12, at 1 p.m. at the Hermiston Cemetery. Burns

Donald Frank Shaw, 77, of La Grande died Saturday, April 30,
2016, in La Grande. A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 7
at 1 p.m. at the La Grande First Christian Church. Loveland Funer-

Former Hermiston resident William A. “Bill” Nuess, 63,
of Sinton, Texas, died Wednesday, May 4, 2016. He was

2016, in Kennewick, Wash. She was born April 21, 1939, in

Linda L. Achuff, 73, of Hermiston died Monday, May
9, 2016, at her home. She was born March 21, 1943, in
Louisiana, Mo. A graveside service will be held Saturday,

6:43 p.m. - A caller reported a vehicle
struck a dog on the 1800 block of Sixth
Street, Umatilla, which lost a leg and was
running toward the police department,.
7:06 p.m. - A livestock owner on Ott
Road, Hermiston, told the Umatilla County
Sheriff’s Office the location of the suspects
who stole her four calves a few weeks ago.
8:05 p.m. - Storms uprooted a tree and
pulled down a power line on Craig Road in
Hermiston.
8:14 p.m. - A large conifer tree broke
at its base and fell onto another tree and a
power line in Hermiston. Pacific Power shut
down the power to the line and firefighters
were able to trim the tree and secure the
line.
10:17 p.m. - A rollover accident occurred
on Interstate 82 near Hermiston. The driver
of the overturned vehicle was the only
occupant and refused transport to the

11:20 a.m. - Vehicles almost hit a
donkey in the road near Central Pre-Mix of
Oregon, 81830 Highway 395, Hermiston.
A man reported he got the animal off the
highway and corralled it.
12:53 p.m. - A Umatilla caller told police
her dog got out of her yard on Fifth Street,
and a neighbor tried to run her dog over.
The dog owner hung up, and a dispatcher
called back. The woman said the neighbor
is her aunt, and she has been causing
trouble. She said her aunt drove onto her
property and tried to hit the dog.
1:47 p.m. - A grass fire burned 1/4 acre
of property off Diagonal Road.

•Hermiston police arrested James
Andrew Phillips, 20, no address provided,
for violating parole, first-degree burglary,
harassment and third-degree mischief.
•Morrow County Sheriff’s Office ar-
rested Justin Ross Clark, 30, of Heppner, for
driving under the influence of intoxicants,
two counts of harassment and two counts
of menacing.
•Hermiston police arrested Korina Rae
Bentz, 24, of Hermiston, for first-degree
theft, first-degree trespass, resisting arrest,
violation of probation and second-degree
theft.
•Oregon State Police arrested Raul
Meza Alvarado, 29, no address provided, for
duii and on a warrant for failure to appear.
