24, 2016, at his home. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in

Bettyjane Bruner, 82, of Hermiston died Saturday, April
16, 2016 in Hermiston. She was born May 25, 1933. A
celebration of life service will be held Saturday, May 7 at 3

Dennis N. Keener of
Paterson,
Washington,
was born on May 27,
1952, in Lawrence, Kan-
sas, to parents Ronald
and Bonnie Gomel
Keener. He died on
April 23, 2016, in
Richland, Washing-
ton, at the age of 63
years.
Dennis attend-
ed many different
schools
growing Keener
up due to moving
frequently for his father’s
work. He graduated from
St. Joseph High School in
Shawnee, Kansas. Den-
nis had several jobs be-
fore moving to Wyoming,
to work in the oil fields.
He then went to work for
what is now Williams
Gas & Pipeline where
he has worked for the
last 30 years. He trans-
ferred to the Hermiston,
Oregon, area and then in
1998 settled in Paterson,
Washington, where he has
lived since.
Dennis was united in
marriage to Lori Wiers-
ma on October 3, 2003,
in Bend, Oregon. Dennis
was an active member of
Our Lady of Angels Cath-
olic Church, Hermiston,
Oregon. Dennis’s faith
and love for his church
and family were his top
priorities. He cared deep-
ly for his fellow co-work-
ers. Dennis enjoyed play-
ing golf, jumping in the
car and going on a trip,
and simply sitting on the
porch and looking at the
river and watching the
sunset.
He is survived by his
wife Lori Keener, Pater-
son, Wash.; mom Bon-
nie Keener, Marysville,

Dena Lee Emery, age 87,
of Albany, Oregon, passed
away on February 29, 2016,
at Timberview Care Center.
She was born to the late Ed-
ward Vern Gabriel and Emma
McFarland Gabriel on Jan-
uary 14, 1929, in Stanield,
Oregon, and was one of 11
children. Dena is survived by
her sister Billie Mottice.
Dena graduated from
Stanield High School before
attending Eastern Oregon
College of Education where
she graduated from their sec-
retarial school. She met her
husband, Quenten Lowell
Emery, while working at the
Umatilla Army Depot. They
lived in several cities in Cal-
ifornia; Carson City, Nevada;
Olympia, Washington, and
Altoona, Iowa, and Dena re-
turned to Oregon with her
two youngest children in
vehicle accident killed the vehicle’s
driver and sheared a power pole.
Hermiston Fire responded and cut the
battery cable.
5:52 a.m. - Hermiston Fire and
Emergency Services returned to the
scene of a motor vehicle accident to
assist with extricating the driver and
releasing the body to Burns Mortuary.
1:15 p.m. - An illegal burn was
reported in the area of Southwest
7th Street and Highland Avenue in
Hermiston. Fireighters advised the
owner that it was a no burn day, and
she extinguished the ire.
6:26 p.m. - An Echo man on East
Gerome Street reported someone
stole his ishing pole.
8:00 p.m. - A man in a green Ford
Explorder knocked out the windows
of a Toyota parked at Golden Palace
before taking of.
10:58 p.m. - Umatilla police took
a report that an ex-employee of the
Riverside Sports Bar & Lounge, 1501
Sixth St., keyed two cars the previous
night.

In her lifetime, Dena met
and entertained governors, state
senators and various celebrities.
She had a very full life.
She loved to cook, en-
joyed entertaining and play-
ing bridge with friends, fam-
ily and co-workers. She also
loved going on long walks,
reading and spending time
with her family and relatives.
Dena had four children:
Rae Ann, 62, La Grande;
Rhonda Fay, deceased; Ro-
berta Jean, 54, La Grande;
and Roy Allen, 53, Corvallis.
She has six grandchildren and
two great-grandchildren.
Dena requested no services.
The family thanks the staff of
Timberview Care Center for
their care and support of Dena
during her last few years.

•Richard James Mills, 61, Herm-
iston, pleaded guilty to Theft II; sen-
tenced to 180 days jail-suspended, 2
years probation, 60 hours community
service, $40 ine and $1,650 ine-sus-
pended, plus court costs and fees;
pleaded guilty to Theft III; sentenced
to $40 ine plus court costs and fees.
•Thomas D. Warnsley, 19, Hermis-
ton, pleaded guilty to Physical Harass-
ment; sentenced to $40 ine plus court
assessment.
•Angela Genevieve Harman, 46,
Hermiston, pleaded guilty to Theft II;
sentenced to 180 days jail-suspend-
ed, 18 months probation, 40 hours
community service, $40 ine, $900
ine-suspended and $118.97 restitu-
tion, plus court costs and fees.
•Randy Mark Johnson, 46, Stan-
ield, pleaded guilty to Theft III; sen-
tenced to $40 ine plus court assess-
ment.
MONDAY

HFES motor vehicle accidents — 2
10:18 a.m. - A resident of Bel Air
Apartments in Hermiston reported
someone tried to kick in the apart-
ment door around 3 a.m.
11:01 a.m. - A two-vehicle accident
blocked the lanes of Southeast
Fourth Street, and Hermiston Fire and
Emergency Services responded.
SUNDAY
HFES medical calls — 8
8:22 a.m. - The Morrow County
Sherif’s Oice received a report of a
man wearing black lying in the road
just west of Our Lady of Guadalupe
Catholic Church, 78922 Olson Road,
Boardman. Sherif’s deputies were
unable to ind the man.
9:43 a.m. - A Jeep owner reported
his vehicle was stolen from East Main
Street in Hermiston.
3:58 p.m. - A woman on West
Fourth Road, Irrigon, reported a pit
bull dog jumped into the back of her
vehicle and attacked her dog. The
caller said they separated the dogs,
and the pit bull became friendly. She
requested contact from the Morrow
County Sherif’s Oice.
4:02 p.m. - Someone stole a
child’s bike from outside a Hermiston
apartment.
4:45 p.m. - A semi driver west-
bound on Interstate 84 near Board-
man reported another semi driver
harassed him on the freeway. At
6:25 p.m., another caller said a white
sedan sped and tailgated him in the
same area. And a third caller at 7:09
complained two empty log trucks and
a semi were “weaving and playing cat
and mouse” while speeding, also in
the same vicinity. The Morrow County
Sherif’s Oice noted the complaints.
7:46 p.m. - A man told the Morrow
County Sherif’s Oice he went to re-
trieve a vehicle at a storage unit near
Southeast 14th Street, Irrigon, and his
wife had “knocked the windows out
of everything,” including the pickup
and a camper.

•Felix Alberto Nieves, 31, Herm-

6:22 a.m. - A shopper found a
wallet at Walmart that had drugs
inside. He turned it over to the
authorities.
8:47 a.m. - Between 8:47 and
9:02 a.m., three observers reported a
vehicle without handicap tags parked
in a handicap area at Hermiston High
School. A citation was issued.
3:45 p.m. - A Hermiston woman
reported a snake in the driveway on
Southwest Desert Oak Drive and said
she did not know what to do about
the snake.
7:53 p.m. - An apartment ire in
Umatilla brought out response from
Umatilla, Hermiston, Stanield and
Irrigon ireighters. The ire damaged

2:42 a.m. - Umatilla police
received a noise complaint from a res-
ident of Dark Canyon Avenue who said
his neighbor woke him out of a sound
sleep at 1:05 a.m. by playing his music
very loud. The caller wished to remain
anonymous because the neighbor has
a history of “getting even.”
6:25 a.m. - A resident of North Ott
Road, Hermiston, told the Umatilla
County Sherif’s Oice her son tried to
hit her with a rock and was calling her
names. The caller said he was chasing
her down the street as she tried to
walk away.
8:28 a.m. - A Hermiston resident
reported her 7-year-old son is with his
father and she discovered the child
has not been in school all week.
11:06 a.m. - A Hermiston-area caller
on Diagonal Road told the Umatilla County
Sherif’s Oice someone stole her saddle,
and she just might know who it was.
1:01 p.m. - A resident of West Cody
Avenue in Hermiston reported her
home had been broken into and the
dog let into the house.
5:15 p.m. - Someone reported
a man had been living in a car on
Southeast Eighth Place in Hermiston.
5:19 p.m. - Umatilla police were
not able to ind a shirtless obese man
with gray hair and a beard who was
drunk and left the Crossroads Truck
Stop, 2020 Highway 730.
5:43 p.m. - A woman in a red dress
was reported sitting in the parking lot
at Motel 6 in Hermiston, smoking and
using “bad words” to customers.
7:50 p.m. — Six people got out of
a white Chevrolet Malibu at Baggett
and Sunshine lanes, Hermiston, then
trespassed and climbed a resident’s
fence. The actions resulted in a
warning from law enforcement.
8:26 p.m. - Someone stole the
DMV stickers of a license plate of a
vehicle on West Orchard Avenue in
Hermiston.
ARRESTS, CITATIONS
•Hermiston police arrested Josie
Lee Pritchard, 26, of Hermiston, for
identity theft, second-degree forgery,
second-degree theft and conspiracy.
•Morrow County Sherif’s Oice
arrested Jason James Abbott, 24, of
Irrigon, for felony attempt to elude
police and two counts of reckless
endangering. The sherif’s oice
arrested Abbott in November 2014 on
similar charges after he led oicers on
a car chase that hit 100 mph.
•Hermiston police arrested Pablo
Carillo Pablo, 31, no address provided,
for felony fourth-degree assault.
•Oregon State Police cited Walter
Chester Blue, 72, no address provided,
for driving under the inluence of
intoxicants.
•Morrow County Sherif’s Oice
arrested Eduardo Garcia Martinez, 26,
address not provided, for DUII.
