RECORDS WEDNESDAY, APRIL 13, 2016 HERMISTONHERALD.COM • A5 OBITUARIES PUBLIC SAFETY LOG Trampis Lee ‘Tramp’ Palmer Robert Matthew Sr. Hermiston December 12, 1973-April 3, 2016 La Grande June 8, 1925-March 31, 2016 Trampis Lee “Tramp” Palmer, 42, of Hermiston passed away at his home on Sunday, April 3, 2016. He was born December 12, 1973, in Hermiston to Debo- rah Jean Stephens and Michael John Palmer. Although born in Hermiston, Trampis lived brieÀy in Walla Walla, Baker City and Arizona while grow- ing up. He graduated Palmer from Hermiston High School in 1992 and was part of the Bulldog football and wrestling teams. Trampis married Tiffany McDaniel on November 28, 1992, in Hermiston. In Sep- tember of 1999, Jake was born and their family would become complete when Me- gan joined them in March 2002. This year they would have celebrated their 24th an- niversary. Tramp’s love for sports fol- lowed him after high school and he started his ¿rst of many coaching jobs the year after he graduated. In 1993, he started coaching Grid Kids Football, as his little brother was on the team and Tramp was hooked! Grid Kids at that time had about 60 kids in the program with four teams. Af- ter a few years of coaching, Tramp became president of the youth football program and remained president un- til 2013. After dedicating 20 years of countless hours, love and effort into the program and kids, it had grown to over 200 players and 10 teams at the time he stepped down. He touched so many lives during this time as both a mentor and coach, sharing his love for the game with all the kids he came into contact with. Tramp’s love of sports did not only encompass football. He was involved with the Hermiston Youth Wrestling program for many years also. He was voted in as tourna- ment director one evening (when he was absent from a board meeting!) and would remain so for several years during the time that his son Jake was a youth wrestler. Not only did he coach boys sports, he also coached City League basketball and HYBA for Megan’s teams. He round- ed off his girl’s basketball coaching with three seasons of Megan’s AAU team, the Purple Crush. Coaching girls was de¿nitely a new experi- ence for Tramp after coaching boys for so many years, but he loved spending time with his daughter and her sports for a change. Tramp found a new sports love in 2011. Lacrosse was still fairly new in Hermiston then, and after watch- ing his son play for a year as a ¿fth grader, he began coaching the next year. He became the youth lacrosse pro- gram director the fol- lowing year and has been involved ever since. His goal was to make the youth lacrosse program as successful as the youth football program. Tramp ¿nally achieved his dream coaching job this year when he was hired as head varsity coach for the Hermiston High School la- crosse team. He was excited to be a part of the high school program and was so looking forward to a great season with players that he had coached in the youth program in previ- ous years. What made it even more special was having Jake on the team too. Dinnertimes were spent listening to them discuss practice and how things went that day. Nothing was more spe- cial to Tramp than his wife, kids, and his family. They were the most important pieces of him and he was so very proud of them. Tramp was a terri¿c husband, dad, coach, friend and mentor to all. He was loved and re- spected by many and will be greatly missed in the community. Trampis is survived by his wife Tiffany, children Jake and Megan, mother Debb Gardner of Ukiah, fa- ther Mike Palmer of Colo- rado, sister Jackie Herrera of Hermiston, brother Josh Gawith of Tri-Cities, grand- parents Carl and Alice Palmer of Hermiston, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. A graveside services was held Saturday, April 9, at the Hermiston Cemetery. A Celebration of Life was held in the Hermiston High School commons. In lieu of Àowers, contri- butions in Tramp’s memory may be made to the “Bene¿t Account For Trampis Palm- er” c/o Banner Bank, 101 E. Main St, Hermiston, OR 97838.
