Chili contest heats up in Umatilla
“We’re trying to make
people aware of what organi-
zations are out there,” Putnam
said. “This way, people will
come in and see organizations
that need funding and need
help with volunteers and their
services.”
The event is Friday at 6:30
p.m. at Umatilla High School,
1400 Seventh St. Those en-
tering the contest must bring
their prepared chili in by 6
p.m.
People are encouraged
to come out and also cheer
for the Lady Vikings as the
Umatilla High School girls
basketball team is hosting
a ¿rst round state playoff
basketball game. It begins
at 6 p.m. Putnam said it
will make for an exciting
atmosphere during the
fundraiser.
“It may be a little hectic,
but it should be fun,” she
said.
The Lions Club fundraiser
also includes a dessert auc-
tion. People are invited to do-
nate non-refrigerated desserts
that will be auctioned off.
In addition to donations
made to those nonpro¿t or-
ganizations entering the chili
contest, the Lions Club will
distribute money raised from
the event to local community
needs.

data,” Greybeck said.
Hired by the Hermiston
School District in 2004 as the
CREW Room teacher at Ar-

Greybeck later taught human-

he moved to Hermiston High
School where he has focused
on building the construction

curriculum.
Greybeck
previously
served in the United States
Navy, worked as a carpenter
and in program management
