School district unveils crisis app
By JADE McDOWELL
Staff Writer
To download the app
In the event of an emer-
gency, community members
will have more information
from Hermiston School Dis-
trict than ever before.
The CrisisManager smart-
phone application provides
everything from push noti¿-
cations to maps of emergen-
cy routes for ¿re drills. Mike
Kay, director of operations
for HSD, said three different
levels of security clearance
should allow parents, staff
and emergency responders to
receive the information they
need in a crisis without com-
promising any of the district’s
security measures.
“It’s just another step to
provide as much accurate in-
formation as quickly as possi-
ble,” he said.
For parents and students,
• Search for “SchoolDude CrisisManager” in the phone’s app store
• Select “Client Plans,” then search for “Hermiston School District 8”
• Use the password “HSD” to connect

district has had a tip line in the
past, but the app’s reporting
mechanism should provide
an even better layer of ano-
nymity and hopefully provide
some “solid leads” for the dis-
trict to follow up on.
For staff members or ¿rst
responders with higher levels
of clearance, the app also pro-
vides more secure information
such as passwords and maps
of every utility shutoff valve
in a school. Cortaberria said
police, ¿re¿ghters and para-

their phones to pull up any
information they need when
responding to a crisis without
having to track down someone
from the district and ask.
