A8 • HERMISTONHERALD.COM Competency of EOTEC leadership questioned Initially, the fair/rodeo grounds were job No. 1 for relocation and I understand the reasons. Then, the “grand scheme” became EOTEC. Now the millions of dollars are gone and the fair/rodeo facili- ties are with “tin cup” in hand wanting to build the required structures for the fair/rodeo. One example stands out. Vice chairman Dan Dorran, stated Oct. 26, 2015 that he thought the barns were just WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 13, 2016 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR that, barns. Well, once codes and requirements were ¿g- ured in the $14 per square feet becomes $24 per square foot, and that’s just the roof, no walls! However, the “trade center” is close to completion. I could expound from here but, just ponder the compe- tency of our local leadership. ROD TRIPLETT HERMISTON The Arc thankful for community support A little over a year ago The Arc of Umatilla County began a journey to raise over $40,000 to replace the con- demned heating unit at The Arc Building. Throughout the last year an outpouring of support for this project has resulted in a new heating sys- tem for this beloved building at 215 W. Orchard Ave. Due to the installation of a new heating system this past fall, The Arc Building is now able to house the Hermiston Warming Station along with providing a place for indi- viduals with intellectual/de- velopmental disabilities and their family members to en- joy activities and educational opportunities year round. The following organiza- tions, businesses, and individ- uals have made a project of this magnitude a reality: The Wildhorse Founda- tion; Blue Mountain Com- munity Foundation; city of Hermiston; Umatilla Electric Cooperative; AFSCME Lo- cal 835; Hermiston Eagles; Veterans of Foreign Wars; Beason’s Chuckwagon; Des- ert Arts Council; Mark and Kristi Smalley; Maryann Elquezabal; Jamie and James Jundt; Norman Schroth; Carol and Sheryl Poulson; Carol Clupny; Bob and Jan Schroth; Sid and Joyce Priest; Jolene Oden; everyone who supported the bowling tour- nament last May at Desert Lanes; the Thursday Night Bingo Players who cooked and sold dinners to bene¿t the furnace fund; Bonnie James for making all of the beauti- ful scarfs to sale; everyone who donated to support Kris- ti Smalley as a participant in the “2015 Dancing With Your Hermiston Stars” Event; Joe Ferretta who donated the stay at a condo for a rafÀe; everyone who bought tickets or made donations in support of the potato feed; Fence Tite Rite for donating fencing to protect the new exterior units; Bruce Heating and Air-con- ditioning, Inc. and Fred Carl- son, Jr. Electrical Contractors, Inc. who have been great to work with on this very com- plex heating system replace- ment project. All other orga- nizations and individuals who we inadvertently have failed to list, we sincerely appreci- ated your help and could not have accomplished this task without your support.
