Arts Council of Pendleton PROGRAM OVERVIEW The Arts Council of Pendleton is a 501(c)(3) non-profi t organization that was founded in 1974, one of the fi rst arts non-profi ts in the state of Oregon. The organization operates the Pendleton Center for the Arts, which opened its doors in 2001, after a $1.8 million renova- tion of the old library building on Main Street. Mission: The Arts Council of Pendleton is dedicated to enriching the cultural climate of the region by promoting and creating education, exhibition and performance opportunities in the arts, and is committed to main- taining stewardship of the Pendleton Center for the Arts. One of the core values that guides the organization is that art, music and creative expression should be accessible to all, and they are committed to iden- tifying and breaking down the barriers that individuals and families might have to participation. In addition to a robust schedule of events, they make the building available for use by the public for a diverse ar- ray of activities, events and family gatherings. The Arts Council recog- nizes the important contribution that artists, craftspeople and musi- cians make to the creative economy and strive to educate the public about the fact that making art is important work. The organization is also committed to being fi nancially sound, and balances support from public and private foundations, local donors and Arts Council mem- bers with earned income from class tuition, art and fi ne craft sales and venue rentals. VOLUNTEER It’s easy to become part of the Arts Center’s community of volunteers, whether your skills and interests align best with project-based work or regularly scheduled shifts.
