Umatilla County Historical Society Contact Information: PROGRAM OVERVIEW The Umatilla County Historical Society carries out its mission through a diverse program structure. It preserves history through its wide-rang- ing collection of objects, photographs, documents, and memorabilia refl ecting life throughout our region. It interprets the area’s history through exhibitions, lectures, tours, and publications. Its major events — Old Iron Show, Agricultural Heritage Tour, Heritage Luncheon, and the Terrifi c Tuesdays presentation series — all focus on particular aspects of life and history within our region, providing “hands-on” experiences, in-depth studies, and behind-the-scenes understanding and experiences. Vision: Photo: Sofi Smith GIVING OPPORTUNITIES There are many opportunities to contribute to the Historical Society and support its work in the preservation and interpretation of our region’s rich history. Expressing support through membership is an important fi rst step. Other ways of giving: • Heritage Club – Annual gifts as a Pathfi nder, Emigrant, or Homesteader. • President’s Circle – Members of this highly regarded circle pledge 5 years of ongoing support at $250 or higher annually. • Memorials – Donations given in memory of loved ones. • Donations in honor of … – Gifts are also made in honor the living. • Sponsorships – Event and publication sponsorships are particularly important in terms of the Historical Society’s ongoing projects and they have the benefi t of providing good publicity for the sponsoring businesses. • Annual Year-End Appeal – Funds received at this time play a very important role in the Historical Society’s programming for the coming year. • Endowment – Donations to this fund contribute importantly toward securing the future of the Historical Society. • Estate Planning – Remembering UCHS in estate planning is a very important investment in the preservation of the history and heritage of our region. VOLUNTEER Volunteers help us to “Tell the Story” at Heritage Station Museum. If you enjoy meeting and working with people, you might consider being a greeter for our visitors, a docent, or a museum store attendant. If you prefer helping behind the scenes, we have opportunities in clerical, collec- tions, exhibits, events, fundraising, marketing, and maintenance. Our signature publication, Pioneer Trails, is a good fi t for those interested in research and writing. The Historical Society’s Community Thrift Shop has appeal for volunteers who love a lively, busy work scene. UCHS will be the leading steward of regional heritage, addressing con- temporary issues through historical perspectives and keeping the past present for the future. Goals & Values: It is the intent of UCHS to carry out our mission according to standards of excellence; to include all peoples and histories in the region; to collab- orate and partner to best serve our membership and create a sense of community across the region; and to provide outreach and programming that furthers our mission and vision.
