WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29, 2015 HERMISTONHERALD.COM • A5 RECORDS OBITUARIES Nancy Louise Brown Echo January 6, 1951-April 19, 2015 Nancy Louise Brown was born on January 6, 1951, in Gold Beach, Or- egon, to parents James and Peggy Burkett Lind- berg. She died on April 19, 2015, at her home in Echo, Oregon, at the age of 64 years. Nancy lived in Oregon, France, Georgia, Washing- ton, Germany and Brown Texas. She moved to Stanfield, Oregon, in 1985 and later to Echo, Oregon, in 1999, where she has lived since. Nancy worked at Lamb Weston for 13 years and then for the Simmons Agency in Hermiston, Oregon, for a couple of years. She was a volunteer and commit- tee member for Relay For Life, a member of A.C.S. CAN, member of Lung Cancer Alliance, Stan- field Moose Lodge and one of the founding par- ents of STAND TALL. Nancy enjoyed crafts, ty- ing flies, reading, making cards and knitting. She is survived by her children: Charles Ray Craig Jr., Jennifer and Jeff Johnson, Echo, Ore., Valerie and How- ard Califf, Umatilla, Ore., Elizabeth and Ste- ven Castillo, Umatilla, Ore., and Rachael Craig, Echo, Ore.; stepdaugh- ter Barbara Nagy, Cen- terville, Wash.; mother Peggy Lindberg, Stanfield, Ore.; sisters Roesealee Combs and her husband John, Hooks, Texas, and Donna Lindberg, Port Orford, Ore.; 17 grandchildren; two great-grand- children; uncle Kenny Burkett, Irrigon, Ore.; two nieces, one nephew, and many cousins. Nancy was preceded in death by her father; first husband Charles Craig; second husband Robert Brown; and stepson Rob- ert Brown Jr. A celebration of life potluck gathering will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Nathan Bard Park, Stanfield, Oregon. Van Schoiack Hermiston July 12, 1926-April 22, 2015 Sidney (Sid) was born in Hep- pner, Mor- row Coun- ty, Oregon, to Cleve H. Van Schoiack and Martha Jane McHugill Van Schoiack on July 12, 1926. He was raised on the family ranch in Heppner with his three brothers and two sisters. Sid joined the Marine Corps July 11, 1944, and served with the occupied forces in Japan and was very proud of his ser- vice to his country as a Marine. Upon returning home Sid became an Or- egon state policeman and it was in that capacity of service that he met and married the love of his life, Fern, in 1949. Fern had three children that he raised and adopted as his own: Richard (Montana), Sally (Salem) and Carol (Hermiston). In 1980, his wife suf- fered brain damage from an unsuccessful surgery for a brain aneurysm and Sid spent the last 17 years of her life lovingly and devotedly caring for her, and was devastated at her passing in 1997. He had many endeavors during his lifetime, but upon his re- tirement from Jefferson County in Madras, Ore- gon, his favorite thing to do was to drive a cattle truck for a friend in Ma- dras. He very much en- joyed his travels and the solitude of traveling to each destination. Sid was moved to Hermiston, Ore., in 2009 to be near family after suf- fering a life-altering ill- ness. Although not expect- ed to recover, he thrived under the loving care of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren IRU WKH QH[W ¿YH DQG KDOI \HDUV XQWLO KLV ¿QDO EDWWOH with pneumonia. He will be greatly missed by those who love him, but is now finally home with his Creator and Savior, his parents, all of his siblings and his beloved wife Fern. There was a graveside service for Sid in Hep- pner on Saturday, April 25th at 1 p.m. and family and friends were invited to a gathering afterwards at the Catholic parish hall in Heppner for brunch. Cleatus ‘Dink’ Ward Hermiston September 16, 1928-April 26, 2015 Cleatus L.“Dink” Ward, 86, of Hermiston died on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at his home in Hermiston. He was born on Sept. 16, 1928, in Ber- nie, Missouri, to par- ents Dale and Mamie Ward. Dink grew up in Missouri and when he was 13 moved to Michigan to manage two restaurants. He lat- er traveled to Califor- Ward nia met his wife Helen there. Dink continued his ed- ucation, going to night school to become an electrical main- tenance supervisor for Kaiser Aluminum & Brick Plant in Moss Landing, Calif. He re- turned to Hermiston, Ore., in 1981 and after a few years off he went back to work at SK Farms in Boardman. He loved working in his garden and sharing the vege- tables with family and friends. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was a 0DVRQ +H ORYHG WR ¿VK EXW his greatest enjoyment was his grandkids and great-grand- kids. He made many wooden toys and bowls in his wood- shop. Cleatus and Helen were married on Sept. 7, 1948. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Thula Taylor; and four brothers, Kile, Si, Peter and Darrel Ward. Dink is survived by his wife, Helen; son Michael (Linda) Ward; daughter Sharon (Dennis) Mock; four grandchildren six great-grandchildren; and nu- merous nieces and nephews.
