A2 • HERMISTONHERALD.COM WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2015 LOCAL WEATHER Pistol turns out to be BB gun Officers dismiss 17-year-old male without charges after ‘stern lecture’ BY SEAN HART HERMISTON HERALD Hermiston police re- sponded to a report of a juvenile carrying a pistol Friday morning in Herm- iston but let the individual go with a warning after dis- covering it was a BB gun. According to the Herm- iston Police Department media bulletin, at about 7 a.m., a 911 caller reported seeing a juvenile walking north on Northwest Sev- enth Street near Butte Park carrying what appeared to be a black pistol. Police Chief Jason Ed- PLVWRQ VDLG RI¿FHUV ¿QDO- ly located the 17-year-old male near the intersection of Elm Avenue and High- way 395 and determined the pistol was a BB gun. ³2I¿FHUV JDYH D VWHUQ lecture to the individual and sent him on his way,” Ed- miston said. “Unfortunate- ly, this is one of those areas where it can get muddy for DQ RI¿FHU WR GH¿QH µSXEOLF alarm’ — one component of disorderly conduct. If the individual was waving the gun around, a case could probably be made, but that was not the case in this in- stance.” Edmiston said, although Butte Park, where the in- GLYLGXDO ZDV ¿UVW UHSRUW- ed, is near Rocky Heights Elementary School, HPD received no information that the teen was on school property.
