The program was as follows: a skit by the 5th and 6th grades, a poem by Robert Fortner, piano solo “Char riot Race” by Shirley Peck, play “Spelling Match” by the 7th and 8th grades, piano solo by Nancy Rand. “Bands Playing in Dixie”, I reading “The Chatterbox" by Shirley Peck. “Sunbonnet Sally and Overall Jim” by Grace Miller and Norma Falconer accompanied by Muggins Peck. The business meeting was held after the pro gram. The students who attended the track meet at Mac Hi Friday were very proud of Eldon Lilly, high point man with 15 points at the meet. Lilly was awarded first place in the 220 which he won in 24.1. first in broad jump, jumping 19 feet 4 inches, and first in the 100 yard dash in 10.3 minutes. Others participating in the meet from Boardman were George Long. Edward McClellen and Gra dy Bever. Pvt. Carol Avent of the Wacs, stationed at the Portland air base, visited with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Avent over the week end. The monthly Grange meeting as scheduled will be held Saturday night iri the grange hall. Hit maternal grandparents came to Oregon across the plaine—to Salem, and a few years later moved to Attoria. The house in which Mr. Reed was born ia etili standing on the corner of Third and Bond Streets. He hat memories of many unique experiences in the old Attoria, when much of the city was built on stilts over the water, and the boya fished through cracha in the Main Street sidewalks. Often he rode with hie father on Columbia River steam- boats, and etili remembers the thrill of eeeing the ateamer “Hassalo” ehoot the rapidt at Caecade Locks in 1888. He so rode on the first railroad train to travel between storia and Portland, an excursion trip in 1897 of the Aatoria and Columbia River Railroad — winning the trip by aelling souvenir badges to excursionists. Mr. Reed went to work in 1899 in the Petereon A Brown Shoe Store. After the Astoria fire, he and Albert Grimberg started the preaent Reed & Grimberg Shoe Store in a tiny building on Exchange Street. Later they established their modern store at its preaent location on Commercial Street.
