THURSDAY, JANUARY 4, 1945 THE HERMISTON HERALD. HERMISTON. OREGON. COLUMBIA NEWS Mrs. L. Hammer and Rosalie motored to. Milton Tuesday after receiving word of Mrs. Hammer's sudden illness. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Neill went to Milton Sunday in order to get Mrs. Hammer who stayed there to care for her moth er, returning home with her niece. Miss Alice Dudley of Portland and those previously mentioned. Rev. and Mrs. Morse called at the Christley home Sunday. Miss Marion Ott returned to Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Getchell re cently received word from their son, Pfc. James Getchell, who is stationed at Pedrickton, New Jer sey, that he was very pleasantly surprised to receive an invitation to Christmas dinner with an elder ly couple residing nearby. Pfc. Getchell states that the event was very similar to that of being at home as anything could be. Christmas-vacation at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ott. This year Miss Ott is enrolled as a sophomore at Oregon State college, and she tsated that her work is quite enjoyable. Miss Pauline Morris has return ed home for a visit with her moth er, Mrs. Laura C. Morris. She has been employed at Richland. Wn. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Reid were dinner guests at the T. J. Means home Sunday. Albert Vincent and daughter home Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Wicklander of Boardman were dinner guests at the Henry Ott home Tuesday. Many relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mrs. Sar ah Anson for dinner Sunday. Mrs. James Getchell and small sons. Jimmy and Jerry, are spend ing a few days in Echo with rela tives. Mrs. Ott was also a guest on Mon- day, the event being a birthday party in honor of little Janice Stratton who was three years old. Mr. and Mrs. Randolph, Don Cook of Helix and Mr. and Mrs. Gellett of Hermiston visited at the home of Mrs. Cook Sunday. Mr .and Mrs. Dell Christley vis ited Thursday at the home of Mrs. Seeley who was ill. Mrs. Johnston of Pendleton vis ited her sister, Mrs. Howard Long- ley the past week. Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Coe of Plaza, Wash., have been visiting at the J. H. Reid home recently. Miss Dorothy Hiatt, who is a member of the U, S. Cadet Nurse Corps, returned to Portland Sun day after spending a few hours with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Keller and daughter Rose mary. Mr. and Mrs. Duff Knight and day dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Pete children and Mr. Powell had Sun- Castric and children. Miss Helen Zehendner and Miss Marion Ott called at the H. G. Mc Culley home Wednesday evening. Miss Rosemary Keller visited Ruth McCulley Saturday after- noon. Fred Berry has returned from Weiser, Idaho, and Ft. Douglas. Utah, where he was called for in duction into the army. Mr. and Mrs. Neil Armstrong spent two days in Portland and returned home Monday night. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Carter spent the holiday week at Long Creek, Ore. The Berry family were guests at the Lee Dyer home on New Year's day. Mr. and Mrs. Percy Corman spent the holiday with Mr. and Mrs. Glen Ryan of Pendleton. Mrs. Geneva Blinston and her daughter Rita of Portland spent the recent holidays at the U. Ed wards home. Mrs. Omar Luttrell and Mrs. Bob Bennett of Ordnance had lunch with Mrs. Bennett's mother, Mrs. Baty, last week. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Dixson have returned from Bonners Ferry, Ida ho, after spending the holidays there. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Fix caught fire and some damage was done to the ceiling and stair- way before it was brought under control. Gene Gray has been having hay chopped on his farm this past week. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Easton and | two children spent several days at the Bob Woodward home. They returned last Wednesday to their home at Boyd. Ore. Family Christmas at the Bob Woodward home included the fol- | lowing: Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth i Beebe and C. J. Star, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. McCutchen of Pendleton, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Hatfield of Umatilla, Mr. and Mrs. Tiny Cald well. Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Carten, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Parsons and children, Cald Caldwell, and Tech. Sgt. Maurice Caldwell, guest of honor who left after 21 days fur lough Tuesday night, accompanied as far as Portland by Carl Cald well, father, who lives in Tacoma. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Garberding isited relatives at Grandview and Mabton. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Conrad are now using their new barn. Recent guests at the Buzz Thompson home were Mr. and Mrs. DeWitte of the Experiment Farm east of Pendleton. Lavon Miller of Tillamook, and Clarence Van der Jack visited at the Joe Udey home from Wednes day through Friday of last week. They had some fine duck shooting while here.
