Ruse Hedrick On December 20, about twenty Girl Leaguers from Stanfield ac- companied by Mrs. Emil Zivney. Glenn Norton, Mrs. A. J. Siebel and Mrs. William Daly visited Mc Caw hospital, conveying home- made cakes and cookies to the soldiers and gave a varied program for their amusement. It proved to be a hard trip due to tire trouble. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Baker and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Kieth of Her miston attended the midnight ser vices Christmas evening at the Episcopal church in Pendleton and the following day enjoyed Christ mas turkey at the Baker home. I Mrs. Morris is their daughter. Mrs. Edna Despain of Pendleton is spending Christmas week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Baker. Mr. and Mrs. Bart Gaymon and children drove to Prosser to their parents’ home for Christmas. Mrs. Augusta Behme and Mr. and Mrs. Curt Rhea of Stanfield attended the wedding of Miss Marie Lane at the Presbyterian church in Pendleton on December 24th. Mrs. Loren Kenison, Mrs. Chas. Foxx and Mrs. Rose Hedrick and Mrs. Minnie Peters attended the unit meeting at the home of Mrs. William Helmick on December 22. The meal served to thirteen mem bers was much enjoyed. Mrs. Fred Burks became a member. The president was surprised with a gift from the unit. Mr. and Mrs. Garth Clark and Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Hedrick and Alice were turkey dinner guests on Christmas day at the Lowell Caplingers and it was a white Christmas for them. Mrs. Floss Wilkinson was a ro-hostess and a bountiful time was enjoyed, Mr. and Mrs. Clark will leave for Portland the first of the year to visit their sisters before Corporal Clark has to report for duty at Bremerton, Wash., January 5th. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Clark spent Christmas day with the Gene Cuarks at Pendleton. Mr. and Mrs. M. Refvem and Miss Berry were hosts to friends on Christmas day at their home to Mrs. Margaret Daughtrey, Mrs. F. B. Stuart, Mrs. Cora Olday and Mrs. Lina Smith. Mrs. Sherman Chapin and Mrs. Mabel Richards were joint hosts for a Christmas turkey dinner and party at the Chapin home. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Gregory and daughter Betty Furlong of Van couver, Wash., were visitors in Stanfield on December 25. Miss Eunice Hughes, a cadet nurse from La Grande, now in training, is enjoying her holidays at her parents’ home, the Magnus Hughes. December 21st. All were pleased in their exchange of gifts. The winner of the quiz contest which was featured since last April proved to be Mrs. Hedrick who was presented a snowwhite cake on a large crystal plate. The tree for the Aid also was a gift from their president, Mrs. Baker. Christmas music was furnished by the Fredreckson sisters and was much enjoyed. Patricia Lantz gave a reading. Miss Leona Laird, all were Christ mas dinner guests with their fath er, Floyd Laird, in Hermiston. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Magnussen spent Saturday and until Tuesday in Seattle with their son, who is stationed in the navy there, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carter. The building of the new church is on the way with the foundation now ready to pour. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Tucker spent Christmas in Portland, accompa nying Mrs. Lloyd Moore down Sat urday. Peter D. Farley spent several days last week in Portland. Teachers going away for the Christmas vacation were Miss Ina Gilbert to Pendleton. Miss Roe Hunsaker to Portland. Mrs. Alice Hanson and Patsy to Spokane. Mr. and Mrs. O. Warnstrom and son Norman of Pendleton spent Christmas day with their son and brother, Fred and family. Mrs. Walter Bullard and Patsy, Mrs. Mary Wurster, all spent Fri day in Walla Walla. Ceiling and roof repairs are be ing made on the school house dur ing the school students’ Christmas vacation. Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Eller spent Christmas evening until Tuesday in Walla Walla with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. Eller. Pfc. Dean Newgard of Walla Walla base spent Christmas here with his wife and her parents. The pinochle club held their Christmas party and exchanged gifts at the home of Mrs. Leta Vieg last Wednesday with Mrs. Vi. Eller winning first prize and Mrs. Gene Hiatt, boobie, for the even ing.
