Moore was a busi ness visitor in Walla Walla Wed nesday. Miss Ruth Means, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Means, is ex pected home Friday from Whit worth college in Spokane. Wash., to spend the Christmas holiday. Miss Marian Ott. student at Ore gon state colloge. arrived home this week to spend until January 1 with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Ott. Word has been received recent ly that John Allen, son of J. V. Al len, now with the armed forces on Saipan, broke his wrist while do ing some boxing there. J. V. Al len is also reported as being in the hospital with a broken back. They are former residents of the Butter Creek district. Pvt. Frank Kinney, attached to the anti-aircraft. U. S. army, ar rived home Wednesday night to spend a short furlough with his mother, Mrs. Ruth Kinney. He has been in training at Ft. Bliss, Tex as. and expects an overseas as signment upon his return. Mr. and Mrs. William Slate of Irrigon are announcing the birth of a baby boy named Billy, and weighing seven pounds, one ounce, Friday at the Hermiston hospital. Roger J. Bounds of Washington, D. C . was a week end guest of Mr. and Mrs. F. B Swayze. Mr. Bounds is a son-in-law of the Swayzes. He reports that his family is feeling fine. Mrs. Dayton Harris and son Micheal returned Wednesday of last week from La Grande where she had spent five days visiting her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Van Patten. Mrs. P. G. Rumpel of Leth bridge, Alberta, Canada, arrived Friday to spend through January with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Villermoure. Mrs. Martha Hardy and son Donald were guests Friday and Saturday at the home of the for mer’s sister, Mr. and Mrs. Max Piger. The Hardys reside in Par ma. Idaho. Little 3-year-old Margaret Mc Donnell entered the Hermiston general hospital Monday for ob servation. Tuesday she was taken to Walla Walla for an appendect omy. Mrs. Bernie Isensee has received word that her husband. Bernie Isensee. S. 2/c, is now stationed at Gulfport. Miss., where he is going to Basic Engineering School. He was home on a short leave a few 1 weeks ago from Camp Farragut, Idaho, where he was stationed at that time. Willie Jackson, brother of Rex Jackson of Hermiston, recent ly received the Bronze Star Medal awarded him for his “outstanding courage in facing intense enemy fire after failure of his machine- gun on Biak Island, June 22, 1944.” Pvt. Ted L. Hodge, son of Mr. and Mrs. Olyn Hodge of Hermis ton, writes the Herald from Camp Roberts, Calif., that he is getting along nicely and is in “tip top shape." He expects to receive a furlough some time in March and will head straight for Hermiston- Hodge was a familiar figure in Hermiston prior to entering the service a few months ago, and usually could be seen lugging milk bottles. Merle Eldrige Ends Training Pvt. Merle S. Eldrige, son of Or val S. Eldrige, Rt. 2, Hermiston, completed a course in electronics at the Army Air Forces Training Command at Chanute Field, III., and has been graduated. He will now receive an assignment.
