For many years the residents of this area have been served by Cold Storage Lockers at the Umatilla Cooperative Creamery. Due to the growth of the community, the building of the Umatilla Ordnance Depot and other construction, the population has more than tripled. At the present time the creamery lockers are insuf ficient with a waiting list of prospective users. Upon consultation, it has been learned that the creamery does not intend to enlarge its capacity of cold storage lockers, leaving a shortage of this ser vice. Frank P. Sargent of Hermiston is contemplating the con struction of a Cold Storage Locker building in Hermiston. How ever, he is faced with these obstacles—obtaining necessary prior ities for construction and also the definite proof of the need for new lockers here. 8 Here is how you can help In order for Mr. Sargent to begin construction, he must have the following proof of evidence. A prospective locker box renter must be a producer of items he wishes to place in his box—Vege tables, Fruits, Dairy Products, etc. At least 60% of the renters must be producers and 40% may be non-producers. A producer is defined as one raising a Victory garden, owning a fruit orchard, raising his own livestock, etc. Furthermore, Mr. Sargent is required to have two-thirds of the boxes rented prior to construction. Those interested in rent ing boxes are asked to go to the First National Bank of Hermiston and put in escrow one year’s rent in advance—the cost will be $1 per cubic foot per year (with a minimum of 8 cubic feet). A pro per receipt will be given and the money refunded if the project does not materialize. The Hermiston Chamber of Commerce heartily endorses Mr. Sargent's project and cordially invites participation by the resi dents of this area. It is a project which is needed and will prove beneficial. This adv. sponsored by Hermiston C. of C. Me econ i we t $
