He has had a year’s training in the glider corps and is sta- tioned at Camp Pope, Louisiana. He expects to leave soon for overseas. A letter from his brother, Pete Able, says he is well and is helping drive the Japs from the strongholds in the Pacific. Irvine Howard, who is being trans ferred from Camp Lee, Virginia, to Camp Beale, Calif., has a furlough en route and is spending it in Pendle ton with his wife. His mother, Mrs. Alma Howard of La Grande, and son Frank, Mr. and Mrs. Irvine Howard, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Ansell and family of Boise, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Shep ard of Pendleton and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Irvine were dinner guests Sun day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Helmick in Echo. Mrs. Helmick is Irvine's sister. Miss Marian George, who is at the home of her sister, Mrs. Don Parker of Portland, writes that her infant Parker nephew has been named Craig. Miss George expects to be home in two weeks. Frank Howard, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Irvine of Echo, is leaving, for Chicago to attend midship- man’s school at Northwest University. All the teachers of Echo schools have been reelected with a ten per cent increase in salary.
