SADIE HAWKINS DAY ENDS WITH itants, while trying to decide which one of the Lil’ Abners they would like to escort to the dance Friday night. It was a colorful day and everyone en joyed themselves immensely. SCHOOL PARTY (From The Bulldog) The Al Capp comic strip really came to life at the Hermiston Union High School, with all characters por trayed. Mammy Yokum, character- ized by Peggy Sommerer, was chosen Queen of the Dogpatchers. and Vance Matott, who characterized one of the Skunk Hollowers, was King. Daisy Mae and Lil’ Abner were there char acterized in many different ways. The beauties of Skunk Hollow and Dog patch were there in abundance, cast ing wistful glances at the male inhab- Walter Pearson. Jack Jackson play ed for the grand march. Decorations were in keeping with Sadie Hawkins Day. Mr. G. C. Hum phreys painted huge pictures of Li’l Abner and Daisy Mae, and each was placed on the end walls of the gym. Other smaller pictures also decorated the walls. These were made by La Lesea Pieper, Alice Turner and Alta Mae Guerrant. Cornstalks, autumn leaves and pumpkins completed the motif. Jack Rodgers and Dorothy Jordan were in charge of the program. The Sadie Hawkins festivities ter minated with a school party, spon sored by the seniors and held in the school gym Friday night. Prises were presented to the Queen and King of the Dogpatchers, Peggy Sommerer and Vance Matott. Dancing was the main feature of the evening with specialty numbers interspersed. These included a grand march, circle dance and shoe dance. PENTECOSTAL TABERNACLE Bob Attebury was awarded a prize for Pastor Shelby E. Graves winning the peanut race. Rev. and Mrs. Floyd Smith, the Music was furnished by a phono colored evangelists, will be holding graph, borrowed from Mr. and Mrs. meetings for us every night this week . at 7:30. Good music and singing every night. We were privileged this past Sun day to have as a guest speaker in the morning service, Rev. Blek from Mon tana. Our Sunday School begins at 10 a. m. A class for every age. At 7 p. m. Young People’s service. There was a good number of young people out last Sunday and they enpoyed this service immensely. At 7:30. evangelistic service.
