He has been station ed in Seattle for the past few months. Announcement is being made of the engagement of Miss Wanda Patten, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Pat ten of Enterprise, and Ervin B. Phip- ple, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Phip- pie of Irrigon. Miss Patten is em- ployed at the Umatilla Ordnance De- pot. Sgt. Vester Shaw, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Shaw, came Sunday to spend until Wednesday visiting rela- tives. Sgt. Shaw and his recent bride returned to Casper, Wyo., Wednesday where he is stationed. The couple were honored guests at a charivari I uesday night and were escorted about town as part of the celebration. The summer Youth Conference f the Christian churches will be held at Cove, Ore., beginning Sunday even ing. Several young people will at tend from the local Central Church of Christ. Mrs. C. Warner, Mrs. Jessie Hineline and Mrs. Chas. Plourd will be in charge of the kitchen and dining room. Rev. C. Warner will be serv ing on the faculty. A happy reunion overseas was ex perienced recently when Raymond and Henry Blahm, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Blahm of Hermiston, met on one of the islands of the Pacific after a separation of 16 months. They had each been on the island for about three months without knowing the other one was there, since they are not in the same company. The boys asked for the day off to visit and re call their past experiences. News has been received by local friends that Donald C. Potts, 18-year- old son of Mrs. Belle Potts of Board man, who joined the navy last Janu ary, recently reported to the submar ine chaser training center at Miami, Fla. He is now a fireman, third class, and is receiving specialized training to fit him for the fight against the enemy U-boat menace. Potts graduated from Boardman high school where he was active in athle tics. Mrs. Ruby Coxen and Mrs. Clara Thornburg, who have spent the past several months in Portland, came this week to spend several days. Mrs. Thornburg will return the first of the week but Mrs. Coxen will remain for a longer visit with her son, Jerry, who is home on a furlough from the U. S.
