She received the paper from her son, Sgt. Roger J. Jensen, who is stationed with troops there. He also writes an interesting letter, telling of various pets he is training and of different entertain ments. The paper is crammed full of war news and other stories which would greatly interest soldiers. It is very typical of English printing, indicat ing that it might be printed by an English concern. Needless to say, Mrs. Edmonds read every portion of the paper. and getting better all the time. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Cronk EXTENSION IS MADE FOR LAND BANK LOANS Congress has just extended the time for making Land Bank Commis sioner lians to July 1, 1945, R. H. Loveless, secretary-treasurer of the Pendleton Group National Farm Loan Associations, said today. Since 1933, when commissioner loans were first made available to as sist farmers with their credit needs, the Pendleton Group Associations have made approximately 752 such • =------- loans for a total of $1,574,000, accord ing to the secretary. A state-wide campaign has been launched against motorists driving their automobiles without the 1943 federal tax stamp, J. W. Maloney, collector of internal revenue, has in formed the Herald. Many motorists have failed to purchase the stamp be cause of a report that congress was considering a bill to abolish the tax for the duration. “The stamps should have been pur chased by July 1 and anyone driving a ear without the tax stamp is violat ing the law,” stated Mr. Maloney. He added that motorists lacking the stamp will be cited to court if found driving their machines. Stamps are available at the post office. MEAT PIES Use the same kind of biscuit dough made with drippings for a covering for meat pie. Use left over meat or small pieces of pre- cooked meat, vegetables of your choice and enough thickened juice from the meat or vegetables to give moisture to the pie filling.
