Willkie is soon to leave for Europe, Asia and Africa as the special ambassador for Pres ident Roosevelt. His mission is to carry the truth to the allied countries and to bring home the truth. Two years ago these men were arrayed against each other in a political battle which has few paral lels in history. Now their differences are set aside in the interests of democracy and the establishment of a permanent world peace. The task assigned to Willkie has also few, if any, parallels in history. Under the stress of our national distress the minds of the two men have found common purposes, which is significant of the greatness of both. All political differences are eliminated in the effort to show the world that the leader of the majority party presents the unity of our nation through the leader of the mi nority party, by which this country proposes to win the war and destroy aggression. With the aid of the administration we know that Willkie can tell the world what we mean, and will do, and through his great ability and power of analysis will bring back the true sentiment of the capitals and statesmen he interviews. And who knows but that behind the thought of the president he has Willkie in mind as his success or. He knows that the next president must have a world-wide knowledge. Roosevelt knows that the job for the next president is the biggest in our his tory. He knows that the man at the head of our gov ernment after the war must be a man of great phys ical and mental vigor, and of great knowledge and experience. Home differences that usually make politics will have to be merged into a world-wide program and former platforms will be in the waste basket. What is in the making no one should know better than the president. At any event, whatever else he has in mind, he is building up the man Willkie.
