(2) When slack coal is to be stored in bins the coal should be dry when stored and should not be placed where water can drain onto or through the coal pile. (3) Slack coal should not be piled over, around or in contact or near contact with hot water or steam pipes or warm air ducts, or against chim neys or furnace walls. (4) After all of the slack coal that is to be stored has been placed in the bin, top of coal should be leveled from wall to wall. (5) When slack coal is to be stored outside upon the ground, a site should be chosen where drainage is away from the coal pile, but with no open drains under the pile at any point. Ground should be cleared of weeds, brush, trees, leaves and refuse. Coal should not be piled higher than 12 feet, and the storage pile should not be wider than 25 feet at the base. The length of such pile may be unlimited. The top of the pile should be leveled so as to avoid hills & valleys. (6) The storage of prepared sizes of coals, includ ing Lump, Stove and Nut, may be made in in side bins or in piles in the open with practically no loss in heating or burning value.
