Pearson spent last week end in Tillamook visiting with their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. McKenzie. Irene and Mary Lindstrom, former residents of Hermiston, visited at the Glenn Ripley home the past week end. Mrs. W. A. Hineline was admitted to the local hospital for a minor op- eration last Friday, She is getting along nicely. Mrs. Hester Feeley, an operator in Reguty Haven, left Saturday Saturdav for the e Beauty Tacoma, Wash., to visit with her hus band. She expects to return Wed nesday. Loren Hensley, who recently en listed with the army, is now stationed at the Victorville Army Flying school, Victorville, Cal. Mrs. F. B. Hill came from Port land Wednesday to visit with her mo ther, Mrs. Miles Barager, who is very ill in the local hospital. She returned Saturday. Mrs. Wm. L. Scarlett left today (Thursday) for her home in Seattle after spending several weeks with her mother, Mrs. J. W. Ralph, and sister, Mrs. Helen Keller. Sybil Howell and Fred Steckman accompanied Esther McMullen to Hot Springs, S. D., where they will be employed. They left Saturday | morning. Dr. and Mrs. W. L. Morgan, Mrs. Anne Durfey and Fred Ritzsinger motored to Spokane by way of Cou lee Dam Easter week end. Tom Cannell and son Jimmy of Forest Grove arrived Tuesday even ing for an indefinite stay at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Woolley. Mrs. Roy Hale entertained at a lovely dessert luncheon Wednesday with three tables in play. Mrs. Ger ald White was high player. Dr. F. B. Belt has been released from the hospital but is still quite weak from a recent siege of pneumo nia. Dr. Belt will be out of town for several weeks to regain his strength. Shaar and Mrs. C. M. Jackson made a business trip to Pendleton one day last week. Joe Cooney and Vivian Brown left Wednesday night for San Francisco where they expect to sign a contract for work in the Hawaiian Islands. Their destination eventually will be Pearl Harbor. Mrs. Tom O’Grady appeared on the Garden Club Hour, which begins at 1:15 over KUJ every Saturday. There is a program every week but a. Schofield spent Tuesday in Pendleton visiting Mrs. Helen Keller who underwent an op eration at St. Anthony’s hospital. The Victory Calf club met Monday night at the Frank Myrick home with leader Eva Wilcox in charge. At this time they decided to make calf blank ets all alike and the same color for their calves at the fair. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Myrick. Barbara Follett visited with Mr. and Mrs. Neal Fitch in Payette from Wednesday to Sunday last week. Both Mr. and Mrs. Fitch lived in Ha- waii for some time and were well ac- quainted with Barbara’s brother Bob who is in the army there. Mrs. J. M. Piercy entertained a group of ladies at her home at the Ordnance depot Wednesday. Those going were Mrs. Wm. Shaar, Mrs. H. T. Fraser, Miss Clara Bryant, Mrs. N. R. Mueller, Mrs. F. B. Swayze and Mrs. F. C. McKenzie. Raymond Knapp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Knapp of the Westland district, recently completed a four months training course as aviation machinists mate at Seattle, and has been transferred to an air base in Norfolk, Va., for advanced training. Mrs. Ralph Richards and Mrs. Kate Robertson entertained for Mrs. Dale Fischer at a bridge party last Thursday afternoon. There were four tables in play with Mrs. Walt Pear son winning high and Mrs. W. G. Kersbergen low. Mrs. Wayne Lindner. Mrs. Jess Connor, Darlene Watson and Hester Feeley made a trip to Pendleton on Monday night to see Ricardo, a not- ed hair stylist. Sunday. Hermiston Barber Shop PACES ATTEND DOUBLE WEDDING Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Pace went to Portland Friday to attend the wed ding of their granddaughters, Juani ta Louise Nuckolls to Mr. R. Daniel Vogt, and Carmelita Lucille Nuckolls to Mr. Howard Gerald Williams.. The double ceremony on Saturday evening was read by the Presbyter ian minister, Rev. Travis, at the home of the brides’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Nuckolls. In front of the fireplace an altar was arranged in a setting of palms, candelabra, and all white flowers. Juanita, gowned in pink lace, entered on the arm of her father, and Carmelita, in blue lace, identically styled, entered on the arm of her uncle, Clyde W. Bea- ty. The brides wore corsages ‘of white orchids. A reception was held after the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Pace report that the marriage brought back memories of their own wedding which was a dou ble ceremony 45 years ago. Mr. Pierce feels quite proud of the record made be cause a good majority of the post masters have been appointed on his recommendation.
