Mc Coy, recently arrived here to spend a leave with friends and relatives. He has had three years service, stationed both in the At lantic and Pacific theatres of war. Miss Frances Betty O’Rourke of Portland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O'Rourke of Baker, Ore., and Warren McCoy, Petty Officer, were united in marriage at an im pressive ceremony at the Assem bly of God church in Walla Walla March 13. Relatives and friends were present. Mrs. McCoy was employed as superintendent of telephone operators in Portland. Warren McCoy, Petty Officer, and Mrs. Warren McCoy were honored guests at a wedding re ception at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. M. McCoy Saturday even ing. Over sixty guests paid tri bute to the popular couple. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Steward and family from Island City, Ore. Many beautiful gifts were received, among them being a hand-made wedding ring quilt present by Mrs. J. A. Gray- beai. Warren McCoy, Petty Offi cer, must report back to Boston, Mass., March 26. Mr. and Mrs. R. M. McCoy have two other sons in the service, Ben ny E. McCoy, First Class Petty Of ficer, and Mac McCoy, First Class Petty Officer. Benny McCoy, Pet ty Officer, is expected home soon for a short leave. At present he is in San Francisco, Cal., and had hoped to arrive home in time to attend the wedding and reception of his brother. Mr. and Mrs. George Brown of Vale, Ore., were week end visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Grider. Mr. and Mrs. Sweringen were Heppner business visitors Mon- day. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Brandon and family from Boardman were Sun- dav guests of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gridar. Clifford Rucker. Seaman 1/c, arrived home March 19th. He has been stationed at Miami, Florida, and will report back for duty Avril 6 at San Diego, Cal. He is crew man in a torpedo bomber, '"is sister, Mrs. Violet Amos and small daughter Ellen of Kellogg. Idaho, are visiting here this week. Leslie Lethrop of Portland expects to isit Clifford and parents. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Rucker before Clifford returns to duty. Elton Fraser, son of Mrs. Min nie Fraser, reported for his physi cal examination in Portland prior to induction into the armed forces. Rev. E. R. Schneider, who has been preaching in the Pentecostal church for over a year, plans to leave in June to do missionary work in Chili. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Forbes of Ordnance City and their daughter, Mrs. Lena Lenz were Irrigon vis itors Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Browning, Mrs. Tom Caldwell, Mrs. Emma Steward, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Schneider and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hill and family were among Her miston business visitors Wednes day. Geo. E. Russell and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Grider were Pendle ton business visitors Friday. The I. H. S. seniors accompan ied by Mr. and Mrs. Elliott went on their senior sneak last week. Pease Co., Inc., department store is one of the oldest mercantile establishments east of the Cas cades. Mr. Pease has been a resident of The Dalles and in the mercantile business since 1884. One of the first users of electricity in The Dalles, Mr. Pease tells of the early days when his store was lighted with coal oil lamps, and when The Dalles was a shipping point and trading center for all the central Oregon country as far south as Lakeview; when ten-horse teams hauled wool to The Dalles for shipment by rail or boat, and returned to the inland country with wagonloads of groceries and supplies, often taking a month for the round trip. Mr. Pease has a well-electrified home in The Dalles now, but says his light bill is one of the smallest items of household expense.
