Prices for some basic com m odities have already gone wp. Increases in Safew ay’s retail prices on these item s reflect the rise in wholesale cost, over w hich Safeway has no control. • It is a fundam ental Safeway policy to earn only a small profit on each sale. Safeway pledges th at during the period of w ar em ergency it will not change this policy; and that in the future, as heretofore, it will m ake every effort through im proved m ethods to reduce distribution cost —the difference betw een w h at the farm er gets and the consum er pays.
