I t is a film life story of one of Am erica’s g reatest and wisest heroes — K nute Rockne. The picture traces Rockne’s life from his early child hood in Norway to his trag ic death in 1931. H is life was full of excite ment, despair, love and trium ph. The film, w ith P a t O’Brien cast as the N otre Dame football wizard, faith fully p o rtray s those elements and keeps alive the tru e ‘sp irit of Rockne.’ His vigor, his astute philosophy, the g reat team s he built, the developing of the famous ‘Four Horsemen’ are all told with a skillful blending of power and subtlety in ‘‘Knute Rock ne— All American,” O’Brien is said to have given such a realistic p o rtray al of the real “ Rock” th a t K nute’s closest friends were amazed at the sta rtlin g likeness in even the sm all est gesture. The brillian t supporting cast con sists of Gale Page as Bonnie, K nute's wife; Donald Crisp as F ath e r Calla han, P resident of N otre Dame, and Ronald Reagan in the g reatest role of his career, th a t of the renowned George Gipp. The players th a t por tr a y the roles of the “F our Horse men” have all seen action on the gridiron. “ Knute Rockne— All A m erican” is more th a n ju st a g reat life story, it is a guide to something we should never forget— the tru e sirit of Amer ica.
