Ruth Fisher accompanied them. Lois Messenger and La Verne Bak er, who are attending E. O. C E. in La Grande were home over the week end. Several from here attended the Po mona Grange at Irrigon Saturday evening where Boardman put on the degree work. Mr. and Mrs. A1 Geiss and Lewis Geiss were taken in. The Boardman Juvenille furnished sever al numbers on the program in the af ternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hadley and son Stanton and Bobby McDermott and Marvin Walpole motored to Bing ham Springs Wednesday where they spent the night. They returned to Hermiston Thursday for the celebra tion. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Sullivan and children left Friday for Corvallis where Mr. Sullivan will attend sum mer school. J. L. Gorham motored to Seaside over the week end to visit his wife. Janet Gorham, who is attending business college in Portland, was home for the fourth. Mr. and Mrs. George Wicklander Sr. were home over the week end. J. R. Culver and family of Stan ford, Mont., visited at the Walpole home Friday, while en route to the San Francisco fair. Mr. and Mrs. Walpole spent the Fourth at the Miller home in Uma tilla. A fire started in the diesel engine room and destroyed the Oasis Service Station Friday morning. All de tachable equipment was removed from the building. Mrs. Charlie Andreggs’ parents from California visited here over Sunday. Mabie Walker, who has been visit ing her sister in Walla Walla, re turned home last week. Phyllis Wilson, who is employed in The Dalles, visited at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Wilson on the Fourth. Mr. and Mrs. Nels Kristensen and son Buddy spent the Fourth with the Skovbo’s in Hermiston. Mrs. Ernie Peck returned from the hospital Friday morning with her small son. (Held from last week) An item appearing recently that M rs. M. K. Flickinger had a slight stroke was incorrect. She spent from Thursday until Sunday with her sis ter, Mary M. Messenger. Edward McClelland of Portland is spending his vacation with his grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kunze. Ed ward is a descendant of Gen. McClel land of the South. John Younger and daughter Bon nie of Durkee, Ore., spent a few days on the project. Jean McKenzie of Umatilla is spending a few days with Frances Skoubo. The Christian Endeavor society will present a carnival July 19 to raise funds for the annual Young People’s Assembly on I«ostine River. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Fagerstrom of Springfield, Mo., are visiting friends here. Mrs. Becker from Los Angeles is in Irrigon looking after business in terests. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cork and fam ily from Monument, Ore., visited their aunt, Mrs. W. C. Isom and fam ily Wednesday. Ray Colter left last week for Detroit, Michigan. He will drive the new school bus back. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Houghton from New York are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Houghton. Mrs. Russell McCoy became very ill Thursday evening, July 4, and was taken to the Hermiston General hos pital for treatment. She was re moved to the Pendleton hospital Mon day and is in a very critical condi tion. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Falgren from Hoquiam, Wn., visited Mr. Falgren’s aunt, Mrs. James Warner, and cou sin, Mrs. Batie Rand Saturday. They were on their honeymoon trip. A large crowd participated in a picnic dinner on the lawn of the Pen tecostal church, July 4. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Warner and family spent the Fourth with Mr. and Mrs. Alva Boulware at Hermiston. Mr. and Mrs. Batie Rand and Mr. and Mrs. George Rand were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Miller at Boardman July 4th. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Caldwell of Portland spent several days last week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Caldwell.
