The subject of rose culture will come later. Mr. and Mrs. Byron Brown re-, ceived word this week of the birth of a son to Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Pratt, May 14. This is Mrs. Brown’s first grandchild and he has been named William Norman Pratt. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. "Glenn Jackson May 17 at St. Anth ony’s hospital in Pendleton. He was named Jerry Jackson. Frank Sloan attended a special Masonic meeting in Heppner, May 16, when three members were given the Royal Arch Masonic degree. Mrs. A1 Gregory has recovered from a recent tonsilectomy at St. An thony’s hospital in Pendleton. The Stanfield high school team lost a baseball game to Pilot Rock, May 17 at a score of 15-2. Members of the student body were guests of the senior class at a picnic Friday at Bingham Springs. Miss Ann Young and Miss Joann Leslie took eight of the Scout-About club to Wallowa lake for an outing, and Mrs. Velma Tenney will serve as cook. The girls include Bernice Hughes, Lenna Lawrence, Sally An son, Patricia Colpitts, Marie Lane, Rita Sturdivant, Betty and Marie Tenney. Mr. and Mrs. Loren Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Loughary of Port land visited their parents here last Saturday and Sunday. The Stanfield school graduates in cluded the following at the exercises May 16: Ina Sutton, Zelma Sutton, Lila Scalf. Linus Foster, Nellie Moore, Charlotte Corneille, Luella Couch, Marian Longhorn, Marie Tenney, Mildred Rogers, Melvin Lawrence, Verl Scalf, Dale Myers, Joe Waterman. Raymond Beebe, Harold Scott, Clinton Jelinek and Willis Rueber. Rev. Butenson of Pendleton gave the address, and diplomas were pre sented by N. D. Bard. Isom Ladd Sherman of Lexington, who has accepted the position of super intendent of schools for the coming year, was a business visitor in this vicinity Friday. Robert Brace and John Swearen- gen, who have been attending busi ness college at Seattle the past year, are home for spring vacation. Mrs. Woods left for her home near Hood River last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Pedan of Tangent, Or., visited their daughter Mrs. Ella Caldwell and family the first of the Mrs. Fred Doll is visiting her hus band at Yakima, Wn., for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Jones left Saturday for the home of his par ents at Milton. Ray Shanks spent the week end with his father. Mrs. Belle Caldwell, who was taken to the Pendleton hospital ten days ago, is improving and expects to return home soon. Mr. and Mrs. Hinkley have pur chased the large chicken house and seven lots in Irrigon from W. C. Isom. They plan to remodel, making it into a residence. Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Cork of Echo visited Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Isom Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bedwell of Sunnyside, Wn.. visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emery Bedwell Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Marshal Markham purchased a new Chevrolet from the Hermiston agency Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. James Amberg were Pilot Rock visitors Sunday. Mrs. James Warner is giving a narty for her Sunday school class Thursday afternoon on the church lawn. FORD TERMINATES GOOD W ILL TOUR On its way up the Pacific coast from the Golden Gate International exposition on Treasure Island, Ford car No. 28,000,000 is due to arrive in the northwest this week on the last lap of a 10,000 mile interna tional goodwill tour, according to A. F. Rohrman, local Ford dealer. On completion of its northwest itinerary, this significant automobile will enter Canada to participate in a big inter national reception.
