Mul lin s of P ortland. State Federation fin e arts chairm an. The m eeting w as held at the W. T. R eeves home w ith Mrs. G. E arnest Greathouse as s istin g Mrs. R eeves as hostess. Mrs. J. M. Richards, vice president of th e local club, acted as presiding o f ficer. Mrs. Harry McCormick sang B erlin ’s ‘‘God Save A m erica” w ith p iano accom panim ent by Mrs. R ay m ond A ttebury. B oth Mrs. Peterson and Mrs. M ullins gave Inspiring ta lk s on the w ork of the State and G eneral Federation. Mrs. F. B. Stuart and Mrs. J. M. R ichards poured during the tea hour assisted by Mrs. Hom er Hedrick and Mrs. Stanley P. Sm ith. T w elve g u ests were present. The next regular club m eeting w ill be on November 2, at the W. T. R eeves home, w ith a tea hour after th e m eetin g to com plim ent the local teachers. Ten members of the Stanfield G range attended the joint m eeting T uesday n igh t w ith Columbia G rang ers as gen ial hosts In th e Columbia school house. Mrs. F. Kreen was hostess to the B ridge club Monday w ith Mesdames Troyer, D ill P enney and T. G. E l lio t as su b stitu te players. Miss El- va Berry held high score. Mrs. Leta Bogart and her son Mel vin of W alla W alla were g u ests of th eir au n t, Mrs. W . T. R eeves Tues day. The Misses Neva H edrick, Jo R hea, Neva Behm e, and Guy Clark Estim ated Expenses for Year 1940 attended the Idaho-LaGrande game at La Grande Saturday. Miss Lenna W aid and her brother- in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Har ry D uvall of L exington, returned Sunday follow in g several days v isit w ith Mr. and Mrs. Ralph W icker- sham in Portland. W h ile there the group attended the P acific Interna tional. They were accompanied on the return trip by E arnest Great- house, w ho has been v isitin g at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Loren M iller, and in cid en tlly atten d in g the stock show , also. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ayers, pro prietors of the H i-W ay Cafe, trans acted business in Pendleton Satur day. Mr. and Mrs. Scot A rm strong of Mt. Vernon, W n., are v isitin g at the home of the la tter’s brother and sis ter-in -law , Mr. and Mrs. Jam es Lane. The W alter Brehm fa m ily have re cen tly come from T intah, Minn., and are liv in g on the H eiter farm w hich th ey have recently purchased. The appearance of the U. P. sta tion has been greatly improved by the construction of a substantial 200 foot platform. Supervisors .from the E lectric Sm ith firm of Spokane have estab lished liv in g quarters in Bun Moore’s cabin park w hile w orking on the re cen tly authorized REA extension through Despain gulch. Mr. and Mrs. M. Refvem and the follo w in g members of the McDonald orchestra, Dorothy Thomsen, Marie Lane, Donald Refvem and B illy P en ney heard Jascha H eifetz in “They Shall Have Music” at the theatre in P endleton Tuesday night. Camp News. E ig h ty -n in e boys arrived in camp S tanfield last week to replace en rollees w ho w ent home last m onth. Supt. B onnevitch has succeeded Lieut. Spangler as com m anding o ffi cer. Mr. and .Mrs. B on n evitch and son have moved into 'the Ken iso n house w hich w as recen tly vacated by the Dyer fam ily. Subaltern McMasters, w ho w ent to W. Va., on the troop train, has returned to camp. S tanley Smith and J. R. Chenault are business visitors a t Snohom ish, Wn. W illiam Haggem an returned to S tanfield Sunday w ith Mr. and Mrs. Roy Penney who sp en t the latter part of the week in Portland. Mr. Haggem an is recovering from an op eration performed several w eeks ago in Portland. Mrs. R. G. A ttebury was hostess Tuesday to the Home Econom ics clu b at her home w est of tow n.
