The first deer reported in Hermis ton was killed by a lady hunter, Mrs. Roy Attebury, who was hunting with her husband in the Meacham coun try. Her deer weighed 138 pounds. A g reater portion of Oregon’s 70,- 000 h u n ters w ent on the m arch W ed nesday a t dawn. S tatistics by the sta te game commission reveal th a t 200.000 deer, an increase of approx imately 55,000 over last year, will be targets. They include 131,280 mules and 61,755 black tails. O ther in terestin g figures reveal th a t in spite of the num ber of deer only one of every six h u n ters will see a buck fall before his firing. H erm iston residents began activ i ties Tuesday in order to be on the field at th e crack of daw n W ednes day. Cars loaded heavily w ith sup plies and h u n ters bedecked in red colors were seen going th ro u g h the city as early as Sunday. Rohrm an retu rn ed T hursday n ig h t from P ortland w here he a t tended a four-day session sponsored by the Ford Motor Co. in regards to a new, lightw eight Ford tracto r which has recently been p u t on th e m arket. The first ship m en t has a r rived in H erm iston and is on display a t th e Rohrm an Motor Co. A dem o n stratio n is planned in the near future. The new m achine has been design ed for use in all types of work and has all the modern conveniences. It has a built-in Ferguson hydraulic mechanism not only for raising and low ering the u n it Implements, but for actually keeping them a t a pre determ ined depth in th e ground. Mr. Rohrm an is q u ite enthused about the tra c to r and predicts a g reat fu tu re for it in th is region. T he building w ill have a cem ent floor and will be 19 x 29 feet in size. The w alls will be of ru stic w ith two linings of celotex. The building will be painted w hite w ith a green shingle roof. A tem porary budget, sim ilar to th a t of last year, was presented by city re corder, Charles Taylor, to which an additional sum of $350 was added a fte r considerable discussion. An emergency 3100 fund was ad ded to th e city lib rary for needed im provements. It was brought out th a t kalsom ining was necessary and new cu rtain s purchased. Also the floors were In need of varnish, and other needed im provem ents were necessary. A sum of $850 was in th e budget for city streets last year. To th is an additional sum of $250 was added in the hopes of oiling several more streets next year. Streets m ention ed for oiling were Gladys evenue from the O. O. Felthouse corner east three blocks, and H u rlb u rt avenue from Pennock's G arage corner to th e highw ay, th ree blocks. In order to do th is oiling, property owners along these streets will be required to pay th eir proportionate share, sim ilar to the plan followed last year. LOCAL CREAMERY INSTALLS LOCKERS The U m atilla Cooperative Cream ery is continuing its program of construction and im provem ent by in stallin g 150 new lockers.
