The county fair preparations are booming and interest is increasing day by day. Even with a late start the show has progressed exceedingly well. Since it is county wide it gives excellent promise of far exceeding any of the former project fairs. New money has been secured for premiums and the list of awards has required an order for 2000 ribbons. The Granges, individual farmers, boys and girls, club organizations, large exhibits and small displays, have all been given a chance to win a prize. The fair is something that the large county of Umatilla needs. County fairs are in vogue every where, and it is strange that such a diversified and rich county as this has not continued its support of such a worthy institution. The buildings and the grounds at the Hermiston park have supplied the space for display and entertainment. Particularly now are farmers urged to prepare livestock and farm products for exhibition. A fair display is not pre pared or grown in a day. A united effort of all residents of Umatilla coun ty should make the County Fair a noteworthy pro ject. We have the products, we have the stock, we have the location—And we have the spirit. Burk, The Human Barometer Residents of Hermiston who are not in the habit of carrying watches these warm days might do well to watch Chas. Burk at his little store on Main street. During the summer weather Charlie is an accurate timepiece and very seldom fails. At 8 :00 A. M. he is at the west side of his store; 12:00, in the front, and at 5:00 on the east side.
