PER I A T I ON FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF HERMISTON As is the custom each year, we want to add our little bit in an effort to cut down the loss and dam age usually flagrant on the Fourth of July. Accord ing to statistics recently released there are over 500 children in our hospitals today that are blind or par tially blind from the careless use of firecrackers and other explosives. We do not mean to be an old “joy killer” but let’s be careful from now until next Tues day. For the older people a word of warning in the use of automobiles. A little extra caution next Tuesday may spare someone a lot of grief. The highways will be full of holiday drivers and a little extra care will have to be exercised. Let’s all have a day off to enjoy ourselves, but let’s be careful. UMATILLA NEWS BOARDMAN NEWS Another sage fire this week was caused by some one’s carelessness. Human nature is sometimes pe culiar. No one would ever think of throwing a fire cracker out into dry grass and yet it was done. How ever, two lessons in two weeks should cause a little thought in this direction. The headline in this morning’s Walla Walla Un ion read, “Tony Cooled in Fourth Round.” What with the weather being as hot as it is, we still believe we can stand the heat better than be cooled by one of Joe Louis’ right hand punches.
