Brown of P o rtlan d as first director of the new m arketing work of the board of h igher education, Oregon w ill have the services of a “ young man w ith proved experience in m ar k etin g and a know ledge of th e n o rth west, as well as an adequate back ground of technical and general tra in in g ,” in the opinion of the com m ittee recom m ending the selec tion to th e board. He is a g rad u ate of Oregon S tate college w ith other business experience in C alifornia before tak in g his position w ith in terstate. He organized the C entral Oregon Cooperative cream ery at Redmond. The division of a g ric u ltu ra l and in d u stria l m arketing was created by th e board of higher education as a resu lt of a stu d y made of Oregon’s m arketing needs by Dr. W. J. K err, chancellor em eritus of th e system and form er president of Oregon S tate college. H is rep o rt called a t tention to th e need for more aggres sive m arketing of Oregon products, p articu la rly in agriculture. He recommended a modest begin n in g w ith a w»ell-trained director who would take the in itiativ e in applying present know ledge and re sources to betterm en t of m arketing in Oregon, coordinating th e energies of all existing related agencies both in and out of th e sta te system of h igher education.
