Mr. H a rr was born May 18, 1853, a t H am ilton, Ohio, and passed aw ay May 13, 1938, a t St. A nth o n y ’s hos p ital in 'Pendleton. He would have been 85 years of age May 18. He resided in th e s ta te of Ohio for 17 y ears before moving to In d i ana w here he lived for a short, w hile before re tu rn in g to Iowa to be employed by the railw a y com pany for seven years. He came w est in 1888 and m arried Mary L orentz of Spokane, W n., in 1898. Mr. H a rr w as in th e em ploy of the Civil Service for fo u r years fol low ing his m arriag e, and la te r farm ed for several years in the sta te of Idcho. Since 1920 he an d his wife have m ade th e ir home on a sm all farm n ear H erm iston. Those who su rv iv e him are his wife, a tw in b ro th er, Joseph R. New m ethods and practices by o th e r seed grow ers will of neces sity have to be adopted, Mr. P ierson believes, or we w ill not be ab le to p ro tect th e id e n tity and p u rity of these fields. Mr. Pierson says, an d advises th a t farm ers get to g eth er and specialize in th e production of improved stra in s of legum es and grasses, w h eth e r it be for hay o r seed purposes. Very little ex perim ental d a ta is av ailab le to d eterm in e best m ethods of seed production in th is area. How ever, farm ers reported to Mr. P ie r son yields of from lf>o to 800 pounds per ac re on red clover an d up to 300 pounds per acre on alfa lfa la st year. If th is can be done.
