STILL LEAD VALUES
E vidently horses and m ules are
far from being outm oded In Oregon
or th e U nited S tates as a whole, ac­
cording to la te st governm ent fig ­
ures obtained by the an im al hus­
bandry d ep a rtm en t a t Oregon S tate
college.
On Ja n u a ry of th is year Oregon
had 155,000 horses valued a t $13,-
125,000, and 8000 m ules valued a t
$730,000. T he com bined value is
five tim es as m uch as is invested in
sw ine in Oregon and alm ost equal
to the value of Oregon sheep. In
th e co untry as a w hole th e ag g re­
gate value of horses and m ules is
$1,562,081,000, w hich exceeds the
am ount invested in any o th er class
of livestock. The value of all dairy
c a ttle is $206,000,000 below th a t of
horses and mules.
