ACC PROPOSED POTATO GOAL The Umatilla County Agricultural Conservation committee has been asked to conduct a referendum with respect to the proposed potato goal under the 1938 Agricultural Con servation program which is being set up in Washington. This program applies to all pota to growers who have normally rais ed three acres or more of potatoes in the county during the years 1936 and 1937. Rate of payment will be established in a manner similar to that used in establishing rates for cotton, corn, tobacco, rice, peanuts, and other crops for which special goals may be set up. Interested potato growers should send their ballots to the assistant county agent’s office on or before Saturday. September 25, in order that the administration in Wash ington may have an expression from potato producers in this area. If you do not wish to mail your ballot, they will be accepted at the assist ant county agent’s office until 5:00" p. m., Saturday, September 25th. The evening’s fun will begin promptly at 8:15. Co-op. Council Meeting. The Co-op Council will meet Fri day. October 1st, at 8:00 p. m., in Assistant County Agent Pierson’s office. All board members and di rectors are urged to be present. 4-H CLUB NEWS Twenty-two boys and girls in the livestock clubs iwere present at ia meeting held in the assistant coun ty agent’s office Tuesday night in which plans were made to attend the 4-H club show to be held in Pendleton, Saturday, September 25. This was the most enthusiastic meeting of the year as it marks the wind up of local shows and will give the boys in this area an oppor tunity to compete against other boys and girls in livestock clubs in Umatilla county. The Pendleton show will determine the 4-H cham pions in the respective livestock clubs in Umatilla county. Ten head of beef animals, 25 head of dairy animals, seven head of hogs, and eight head of sheep will be exhibit ed at Pendleton by the boys and girls from this section Saturday. Kenneth Bensel and Eugene Rugg. state dairy demonstration champ ions. will give their demonstration at 1:30 Saturday afternoon at the Round Up grounds. This will be the last that this demonstration will be held locally. The boys will compete at the National Dairy Show at Co lumbus. Ohio, on October 10th, for sectional honors and a 9500 agricul tural college scholarship. Should they place in this contest they will compete for national honors against the winners of the sectional contest for an additional 9300 agricultural aollege scholarship. Committee in charge of entertain ment consists of Mrs. F. Guiwits, Mrs. H. J. Ott, Mrs. Harry Connor, and Mrs. Chas. Lynch. At the last meeting, September 17th, a program on Constitution Day was enjoyed with singing and games, followed by refreshments. Entertainment committee was com posed of Mrs. P. H. Corman, Mrs. M. Blahm, Mrs. Henry Hooker and Mrs. Doris Panages. Irrigon Grange Booster. WESTLAND GRANGE BOOSTER N IG H T The Westland Grange will ob serve Booster Night at its regular meeting Thursday, September 30th, with a special program and enter tainment. The meeting will be held in the Odd Fellows hall in Her miston which is being used as a meeting place. This Booster Night program will be open to the public and anyone interested is invited to attend. Following the program re freshments and dancing will be en joyed.
