Mrs. H a rrie t Ford, the siste r of Mrs. Elm ore M cKenzie of U m atilla, visited th e m eeting and gave suggestions on exhibits and club work. Mrs. Ford is a form er 4-H leader in th e W illam ette val ley. A fter th e m eeting a social was enjoyed at w hich tim e cake and d rin k s w ere served. T here w ere ten m em bers, four v isitors and th e local leader present. V isitors included D oris P earson of Echo, Louise Ben sel, a form er member, Agnes Riley an d M rs. Leedy, secretary to th e Ore gon T urkey G row ers’ Cooperative, gave an in te re stin g rep o rt of th e y ea r’s w ork am ong th e fo u r Oregon d istric ts, the ea stern Oregon asso ciation a t H erm iston, cen tral Ore gon a t Redmond, w estern Oregon at Roseburg, an d so u th ern Oregon a t Medford. Leedy stressed th e im p o rt ance of stre n g th e n in g each associa tion in its m em bership and com bin ing efforts to w ard b etter m ark etin g and d ressin g facilities. He also fea tu red th e ad v e rtisin g program w hich d efin itely reveals th a t th e “ N orbest” b rand nam e for th e prim e grade of tu rk ey s has been q u ite de fin ite ly established, both w ith the trad e and w ith th e housewives of of the country. In his report he m en tioned th e radio ad v e rtisin g cam paign staged over WOR, a pow erful radio sta tio n in New York City, fea tu red by chefs from th e lead in g ho tels w here prizes are given for th e favority recipes on cooking turkey. A n o th er com m ercial ad v e rtisin g m edia w as the assim ilatio n of these recipes on a book to be given aw ay to all listen e rs who request copies. “ N orbest” b ran d of tu rk ey s was th e forw ard in these recipe books, w hich proved to be a good way to in crease th e dem and for “ N o rb est” turkeys, such as our grow ers in th is area raise. A nother fe a tu re of th e "N o rb est” cam paign in New Y ork City was the use of a d ealer display card w hich was designed for point-of-sale capi ta liz atio n of th e radio program . T he New York new spapers coopera ted m ost eag erly in giving u n u su al “ N orbest” stories and pictures. Mr. Leedy sta te d th a t th is cam paign resulted in th e sale of more “ N orbest” tu rk ey s and won m any new friends for “ N orbest” brand, w hich w ill no d o u b t carry over for ’ years to come. J E very tu rk ey grow er present was asked to use th e trad e brand “ Nor- best” w hen speaking of his tu rk ey s and keep the g en e ral public con scious of the trad e brand of n o rth w est turkeys.
