Pankow was au thorized by the board to m ake a trip to P o rt land to secure a ca rn iv al com pany w hich w ill fu rn ish p a r t of th e e n te r ta in m e n t on th e grounds d u rin g the fair. Bands from H eppner and I r r i gon w ill be inviied to p articip a te. T he H eppner band has won th e s ta te cham pionship in its class for the past tw o years. A queen w ill again ru le over th e fa ir, and dances for her election will s ta r t im m ediately. T he fa ir board an d local business people a re co operating in securing m ateria l for stre e t decorations to be owned by th e fa ir board and city. C itizens w ill be asked to cooperate in m aking th e p ennants. L. C. Dyer an d F ra n k Seeliger, su p e rin te n d e n ts of th e d airy d iv i sion, asked for th e cooperation of dairym en in g e ttin g en tries in early in order th a t sta ll space may be a r ranged. C. A. L ynch, dairy H olstein breeder on the project, will give a p urebred H olstein calf to th e o u t sta n d in g boy or g irl in club work. H e specifies, how ever, th a t th e club m ust re ta in th e calf and not sell it. The tu rk e y p icking contest for th e cham pionship of the world will ag ain be staged to contest th e e lig i b ility of G. G. Sm ith of S tanfield to re ta in th e title . Two crew s have th ree men, an d th e th ird has four. They survey each ranch as to acreag e of all crops now be ing produced and also th e idle land. T h e ow ner can p rocure a copy of the m aps m ade of h is farm . Cook sta te s th a t th e farm ers on irrig a te d lan d s a re becoming more in te reste d in th e soil conservation program as they begin to u n d erstan d its purpose, an d receive its benefits. He finds th a t a g re a t m any do not know how best to conform w ith the req u irem en ts of th e act, an d th ese people a re urged to go before the county com m ittee in P endleton. E ach farm has a d iffe re n t setup, and each m an know s w h at he w ants to p la n t, an d by stu d y of his own case he w ill be able to secure g re a t er paym ents for his work. Cook believes th a t 90 p ercen t of those who signed w ork sheets last sp rin g w ill be able to qu alify for paym ents. T h e a c t is to be co n tin ued. STANFIELD (S p e cia l)— F u n eral services w ere held Monday m orning a t th e P re sb y teria n ch u rch for Jo h n E lm er Reeves, who died suddenly a t his home S atu rd ay m orning. The Rev. Mr. H u n te r of th e F u ll Gospel M ission of Pendleton, con ducted th e services. Reeves was born in L inn county, Oregon. Ja n u a ry 10, 1865. He came w ith his p aren ts, O lijah and D iana Reeves to P endleton in 1870 and had lived continuously in th is coun ty ever since, and a t his la te home for 44 years. He was m arried to A nne K enison P rice in 1893 and she survives him as do one b ro th er, W. T. Reeves of th e Meadows, an d one sister, Mrs. L au ra P e rrin of P endleton. Reeves h ad been a m em ber of O verland lodge, I. O. O. F., of Echo for nearly 40 years having received a 25 year jew el several y ears ago. P allb earers were m em bers of th e I. O. O. F., B url P earson, H ow ard P earson, Lee Pearson, Ben G askill, Jo h n Y oung of Echo, an d M. J. Mc D erm ott of S tanfield.
