A number of friends paid their last tribute to Albert McCarty at his funeral Friday in Echo. Mrs. Marion Finch and daughters, and Mrs. C. H. Bartholomew were callers at the Sloan Thomson and Roy Neill homes Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Finch and family, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rauch and daughters, Doris and Ina, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Ayers and family and Lloyd Baldridge went to the show in Hermiston Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Neill were cal lers at the C. H, Bartholomew home Sunday. The high school play, “Look Out Lizzie,” is progressing rapidly and will be presented in May. Jim Ayers was a caller in Hepp- ner Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Lon Wattenburger were at the Fred Rauch home Mon day. Robert Smith of Irrigon was a caller on the creek Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hale and son of Hermiston spent Sunday on the creek. The boy was interested in getting his share of magpies and crows for the contest in Hermiston. Mrs. Lucy O'Brien and children were callers In Pendleton Thursday. Mrs. W. D. Neill spent the week end at her home on the creek. Mr. and Mrs. Lon Wattenburger were callers at the W. J. Wattenbur ger home in Echo. Mrs. W. J. The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell McCoy is in The Dalles for medical treatment for ear trou- ble. Mrs. Chas. Steward called on Mrs. Belle Caldwell Saturday. Mrs. Knight is staying at the Caldwell home. Mrs. Geo. Kendler, Mrs. Batie Rand, and Mrs. W. C. Isom were joint hostesses at a miscellaneous shower and luncheon at the W. C. Isom home Thursday afternoon, hon oring Mrs. Don Isom. Forty-five guests were present and many beau tiful presents were presented to the honoree. A very pleasant afternoon was spent. Tight hand while he was running a feed cutter at his place Wednesday. Mrs. Ruth Leabo, who has been visiting Mrs. Ed Johnson the past three weeks, returned to her home at Milwaukee, Ore., Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Carpenter and Zeldda came up from Portland Sat urday to attend the senior frolic. Mr. annd Mrs. M. D. Beers and son Alvin of Odell visited last week with the Russell family. Mr. and Mrs. Nate Macomber went to Walla Walla Saturday and returned Sunday. They were guests of Mr. and Mrs. G. Pettys and Mrs. ! Sid McReynolds while there. Vernon Root was home over the week end from Aberdeen, Wn., | where he has employment. Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Messenger went to LaGrande Sunday and spent the day with Lois. Mrs. Delbert Mackan arrived Sun day to help her mother, Mrs. Kruse while Mr. Kruse is in the hospital. Starting Sunday May 2nd, Rev. Thomas will hold church services at 11:00 a. m. here, 2:00 p. m. at Ir rigon and 8:00 p. m. at Umatilla. Sunday, May 2nd, the Sunday school workers meeting will be held immediately after church services. All who are interested in Sunday + school or vacation Bible school work are asked to be present If possible. ---- • Walter Ostrom returned Thursday from Forest Grove where he has been employed. The Umatilla boys defeated the Boadman boys’ baseball team on the local diamond Thursday 10-4. Mrs. James Byrnes. Mrs. Don Har ryman and sons and Mrs. Lloyd Har ryman attended a party for Mrs. Don Isom Thursday afternoon at the W. C. Isom home at Irrigon. Art Peterson of Willow Creek ar- rived Thursday to visit the Hugh Van Schoiack home. Tom Tucker, Mrs. Elmore McKen zie and daughter Betty. Erma Byrnes. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Joder, Mrs. Henry Rodenbough and daugh ter Doris spent Saturday in Pendle ton shopping. Del Jackson who Is working in Portland is visiting his family here. Duddy Dillon, Virginia Compton, and Ed Skoubo of Boardman spent Sunday afternoon visiting at the El more McKenzie home. Evelyn Ford, who Is attending Normal school at La Grande spent the week end visiting her parents. Mr. and Mrs. John Ford. Mrs. Del Jackson and Mrs. H. B. Thomas were hostesses at a dinner given in honor of Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Miller Sunday on their 49th wed ding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kennedy and children and Joe Wein spent Sunday in Walla Walla. Joe Linfow, who is working in Pendleton spent Sunday visiting his relatives. Louise Bensel has been chosen valedictorian and Thomas Cooney salutatorian of the senior class for commencement which will be May 20th. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Geer and daugh ter of Kinzua is visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Powell. The Redmen are giving the mem bers of the Pocahontas lodge and their families a feed Thursday nite. Macomber who has been in the hospital the past few weeks. They found him very much improved. He expects to return home some time this week. A group of Grangers met at the Kruse place Monday and helped Mrs. Kruse with some spring seeding. Mrs. Charley Nickerson visited Mrs Ford in The Dalles the past Edwin Ingles has accepted a po sition as professor in the Pacific Forest Grove and University will not teach in Umatilla next year as first planned.
