Jess White and family of Pasco arrived Monday and took up their residence on the Eggleston place west of town which they purchased recently. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Dexter are the parents of a 71 pound baby girl which arrived Sunday. Mrs. Dexter is staying at the Haney home dur ing her illness. The little Miss has been named Myrtle Arlene. Miss Nellie Leicht spent last week end st the McMann home at Arlington. Ray Olmstead took a load of cat tle to Portland Tuesday. Robert Smith trucked a load of hogs and some cattle to Portland Monday. Miss Vonna Jones accom panied him to Portland where she will spend the next two months vis iting relatives. John Smith has been quite ill with the flu the past week. The fellowship meeting at the Pentecostal church Monday was well attended in spite of bad roads and cold weather. Services were held at 1:30, 2:30 and 7:30. The speak ers were Rev. McLaughlin of Walla Walla. Rev. Wyman ot Pasco and Rev. Alloway. A sumptuous dinner was served at the parsonage at noon. Kenneth Mace is again able to as sist with the work at the Texaco station. W. Haney received word of the serious illness of his mother who lives at Marwood, Cal. A. C. Houghton was a Heppner visitor Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Isom and little Donna Joanne were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Kendler Sunday. School was not in session Tues day and Wednesday due to a break age in the water system. The Irrigon high school and grade school basketball teams played the Ione teams at Ione Thursday night. They won both games. Marshal Markham spent the week end with his family. Mrs. Minnie Elder came Saturday night to spend a few days with her son. Rev. Crawford. Anderson gave a very interesting report on the book "Women of the Congo." Mrs. J. F. Barlow was quite ill the first of the week with ptomaine poi soning. George Wicklander went to Port land Friday. He returned Sunday, accompanied by his wife and baby. The World's Day of Prayer was observed here Friday by a meeting held at the Messenger home. It was a very interesting meeting but only thirteen attended. Jack Gorham made a trip to Pen- dleton Monday to consult an eye specialist. Mrs. G. McCutchen visited a few days this week at Yacolt, Wn. The town team went to The Dalles Saturday, Feb. 13, to play in the Central Oregon tournament. They won the game with Hood River and played The Dalles for the champion ship, when they lost the first game of the season.
