Penney and son Billy, and Donald Refvem of Stanfield, returned Sunday from a trip of eight days which took them by way of Heppner, Spray, Prine ville, Redmond and Bend, At Bend they spent most of their time at Paulina lake fishing and boating. They crossed to Eugene by the Mc Kenzie Pass to visit Mr. and Mrs. Karl Lund and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Loughary and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bagan. From there they visited in Salem, Monmouth and Corvallis, calling at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Beavert at Corvallis. Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Fix were sur prised Sunday when a group of their friends called to spend the after noon. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Fix, Ed and August Fix, Ken neth Husler, Wilford Miller, Fran- ces, Helen, Rose and Dorothy Fix, all of Walla Walla. Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Atkinson and son Milo Atki- son, all of Pilot Rock. Wm. Behme, Stanfield. Jack Hodgens, remained until Wednesday as a guest of El don Fix. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Mikesell left Thursday on a four week trip to St. Joseph, Missouri, to visit relatives in Bates county after a 34 year ab- sence. Representatives from other orders in this district were also present. A splendid representation from west Umatilla county attended the homemaker’s meeting in Pendleton Tuesday. Among those present were Mrs. W. A. Sawyer. Mrs. H. G. Mc- Culley, Mrs. J. Skovbo. Mrs. Henry Hooker, Mrs. O. O. Felthouse, Mrs. Dave Mittlesdorf, Mrs. J. A. Clarke and Mrs. Ralph Saylo.r Sunday evening at the Epworth League hour of the Methodist church students of Oregon State college who are members of the church, gave a review of the Wesley Foun dation work on the campus for stu dents away from home. The young people are Edna Ott, Miriam Swar- ner and Lawrence Swarner. Mr. and Mrs. Amos Dyer of Co lumbus, Ohio, who have been visit ing at the home of J. 8. Dyer and L. C. Dyer. Fos- ter home Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Jake Schell and three children from Nebraska, and Mr. and Mrs. George Rand from Irrigon. Mr. and Mrs. George Walters of Pendleton visited at the Baxter Hut chison home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Graybeal and son. and Fay Gardiner of Umatilla and Mrs. Johnson and children of Idaho were visitors at the Lathrop home Thursday of last week. Mrs. Grace Trumbull passed a wav last week in Portland. Many friends attended the funeral services in Her miston Sunday. She is a former resident on Walter Knapton place which is now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Sneed and family. Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Ott and fami ly attended the wedding of their son Walther last week in Corvallis, Ore. Mary and Philip Wilson, who have been employed at the Joe Hawkins ranch near Adams, re- turned home Sunday. Mrs. Anna Willard is ill at her home this week, having suffered a stroke. Hop picking started Tuesday on the Dixon ranch with about eighty pickers. Mr. Dixon,says it will take from the first to the twelfth to harvest the hop crop. Richard Rainwater of Hermiston was a Sunday dinner guest at the Tom Wilson home. A meeting of • the Blue Ribbon 4-H Calf club was held Saturday at the Foster home. W. L. Dixon has purchased a new Hudson eight. Jack Allen is employed at the Mikesell ranch while they are away. Mr. and Mrs. Gus Linder were Sunday afternoon guests at the W. B. Foster home. Carl Hammer left Monday for Heppner. Ore., where he is employed. W. L. Dixon made a business trip to Pendleton Friday. Deverde Elwood of Hermiston is employed at the J. H. Ried home. Faith Wilson visited at the Carl Hammer home Wednesday. A minstrel show was put on by Mrs. J. F. Lane, Mrs. Jess Richards. Mrs. H. McCor- mack. Mrs. Ila Wallace, and Mrs. Edgar Hoosier. Miss Dorothy Shel ton was accompanist. Mrs. Rieber and Miss Marie are visiting at the home of their daugh ter and sister. Mra. H. B. Campbell. They have visited friends in Dallas and coast points, and are now en- route to their home near Hunting- ton. Harry Hull returned to his home after a few days visit in Seattle at the home of his brother, Vern Hull. He accompanied Alfa Stangeby to Seattle where he visited at his home in Seaboro. Miss Sara Rix returned to Uma- tilla Thursday from Prairie City where she has been working this summer. Miss Rix is the cook in the cafeteria in the school.
