It is to the advant age of every one that a drive be made on the rats, and nothing can be accomplished unless everyone co- operates. Mrs. Paul Smith was in Spokane last week visiting friends and rela tives. A sister who lives in Califor- nia was also visiting at the same place. They had not seen each oth- er for about 16 years. Carroll Kennedy came up from Eugene Wednesday and purchased a new Chevrolet coach from Jack Gor ham. Charley Smith is home from the CCC camp. Mr. Donahue stopped at his sis ter’s home, Mrs. A. A. Agee, bring ing Olive Pettys for a visit. A Townsend speaker will address an audience in the school auditor ium Wednesday evening, July 1. Miss Mae Wurster of Umatilla is at the Slanger home this week. Mrs. Shannon is home from the hospital very much improved. Miss Echo Coats returned home Monday from Eugene where she was visiting friends and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. George Wicklander Jr., are home for a few days from Bend where George has employment. Mrs. Dan Ransier has rented an apartment in Hermiston and has Billie there under the doctor's care, at this writing he is some better. Mrs. Pruter is enjoying a visit with her brother and wife who ar rived from Illinois Sunday via auto. Several people from here attend ed the Townsend picnic at Ione Sun day and every one reported a good time. Two cakes were up for sale the proceeds to go to help send a delegate to the convention. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Wicklander, Alice and Ellabella were in Board man over Monday. Guy Barlow, Chloe,and Mildred Allen were Pendleton visitorrs Sat urday. The highway extra crew is to be stationed here for about a week’s work. The work of painting the yellow streak on the highway will be delayed owing to the hot weather. C. G. Blayden received the sad news of the death of his sister. She lived in California and the Blaydens paid her a visit last winter when they were in California. Mrs. G. E. Sturm and children re turned home Thursday from Tigard. Ore., where they have been visiting relatives the past month. Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Thorpe are proud parents of an 8 pound baby boy born June 19 at the Hermiston General hospital. Larry Everett and mother are reported getting along nicely and came home Monday. Erna Skoubo accompanied Carroll Kennedy as far as Portland where she will be a guest at the Alfred Skoubo home. Miss Virginia Compton left last Wednesday for Portland and Calif ornia where she will visit relatives. Alex P. Ayers, Jr., and Helen Evans were married June 6 at Mar ine Base, San Diego, Cal. The fam ilies have been friends over a long period of years. Aldene Parsons and Ward Shore of Spokane were married last week at Spokane. Mr. Peck and family were called to The Dalles to attend his mother’s funeral. They returned home Wed nesday. Mrs. Russell and family were pleasantly surprised Friday when her neice Mrs. Elma Brown of Honolu lu stopped for a short visit on her way to Idaho to visit her mother.
