Local Happenings Curtis Simons, S.D.D.G.M., of Dis trict No. 12, attended a district offi cers’ meeting in Pendleton and Heppner last Tuesday and Wednes day nights. The meetings were or ganization gatherings and were called by Grand Master F. M. Sex ton of The Dalles. Other represen tatives of the Hermiston lodge were present at both these meetings. Mrs. Fred Ober, assisted by Mrs. Fred Scheuning, gave a surprise party Monday afternoon in honor of Richard Ober's sixth birthday. The room was nicely decorated carrying out the Hallowe’en motif. A love ly birthday cake and other refresh ments were served. Those present included David Lee Knerr, Billy Knerr, Franc’s Clarke. The Missionary Society of the Union church was entertained at the home of Mrs. Julius Gimbic Wed nesday afternoon with Mrs. W. A. MOST BEAUTIFUL. — TWO COUNTIES REPRESENTED Living within close proximity to the highway are approximately ten thousand people who will make fre quent use of the road, in addition to the general trucking service-required by the many communities. The road also connects up the great sheep, cattle and horse ranges in Grant, Wheeler and Fossil and southern Umatilla counties with the feeding grounds of hay producing sections of Willow Creek. Butter Creek and the irrigated projects in these two coun ties. The wheat fields of Morrow coun ty will also be given service to the proposed port at Umatilla, which will follow the completion of the channel- work now being started from Celilo to Umatilla. The road will also provide a better route from Heppner and Lexington, and Ione to Pendleton, and promise of support of the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce and business men has been given.
