Mrs. Arietta White entertained at dinner last Thursday evening honor ing her daughter Miss Margaret White who left Monday for her home at Berkley. Calif., after spend ing a month here. House guests of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Strohm from Tuesday until Friday of last week were Mr. and Mrs. Dale W. Isbell of Hood Wyatt and River. Mr. Isbell is Mr. Strohm’s brother-in-law and Mrs. Wyatt is Mr. Isbell's daughter. H. M. Sommer and son left Tuesday morning on a business trip to Caldwell. Idaho. Mr. Sommerer is manager of the Farm Bureau Co- operative of Hermiston. A large sleeping porch is being built on the south side of the Mrs. Bert Mullens home this week with an entrance to the house being made through a French door. The full- length porch across the front of the house has been torn away and a small door porch constructed. Don Sherwood, who is employed at the experiment station, left the first of the week for Portland and Salem. He was accompanied by Miss Alma Vanwinkle of Lexington and Miss Eva Wilcox of Hermiston, who will visit their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Eskelson at Salem. The girls are cousins. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Moore and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pierson left the first of the week for Lava Lake near Bend on a week’s vacation trip. They ex pect to return Sunday. E. Young of Pendleton is looking after the Stan dard Oil station business during Mr. Moore’s absence. A group of the younger set enjoy ed Sunday at Bingham Springs. Among them were Miss Mary Lee Rhea. Carl Rhea, Ralph Isaacson and Lee Connor of Stanfield, the Misses Norma Davis and Mildred Phelps, Mrs. Miller and Pryor Shaw of Her miston. Dr. and Mrs. R. R. Reeve and two sons are making their home in Her miston for the next six weeks while Dr. Reeve is testing dairy cattle in the federal Bang’s disease control program. They are living in the Warner house on the west side of town. The Misses Barbara Weesell, Mar garet Felthouse, Emogene Paul and Pauline Stoop and Mrs. Georgia Hen derson motored to Pendleton Wed nesday evening,to attend the coro nation at the Pythian Sisters’ baby show at which Kathleen Ann Kelley of Hermiston was crowned junior queen. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kelley. Geraldine and Roberta Mullens ac companied G. A. Garrett to Knappa, Ore., Friday morning where they ex pect to visit at the home of Miss Margaret Elliott until Sunday and then spend the remainder of the week at Seaside. Mr. Garrett will join his wife and son at Astoria for at least two weeks. Miss Pauline Stoop left Thursday night for Portland where she joined Miss Margaret Elliott to leave for the latter's home at Knappa, Ore., where they will remain until Sun day before leaving for a week’s va cation at Seaside. Miss Elliott has been attending summer school in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Clarke, who have been visiting their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Clarke, for the past month, left Sunday morn ing by train for their home In Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Their visit here was their first trip west of the Mississippi river and they had the opportunity of visiting as far north as British Columbia and as far south as Seaside. Miss Esther Sibert and her par ents. Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Sibert, of Elberton. Wn., who have been east this summer, stopped in Hermiston a short time last Thursday enroute to their home. They were just re turning from California where they visited relatives. Miss Sibert has taught in the commercial depart ment of the local high school for the past three years. An enjoyable picnic dinner was served on the lawn of the DeMoss farm last Sunday. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. R. H. McAtee. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ott. Walther, Edna and Marion Ott, Mrs. Mary Brierly and Miss Jessie Brierly, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Jackson and sons Billy and Bob, Glenn and Edward Banta. Harvey and Donald DeMoss. Mrs. Elizabeth Gage and Mr. and Mrs. John DeMoss. Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Best plan to leave Saturday on a month's motor trip which will take them to Unity,, Canada, and then to North Dakota where they will visit Mr. Best's sis- | ter. From there to Duluth. Minne sota. to visit another sister, and to Minneapolis to visit Mrs. Best's mother and sister. They will also visit in Iowa and South Dakota be fore returning home. Melvin Follett motored to Port land over the week end. He was ac companied by Rosemary Serell, Bon nie Jean Follett and Fern Lindner. Rosemary and Bonnie Jean went from Portland to Cascadia for two weeks at a B.Y.P. U. camp.
