Local Happenings Dave Mittlesdorf motored to Port land last Thursday. J. R. Freeman, postal inspector of Portland, is in town this week. F. N Clark of Pasco was a busi ness visitor in town Wednesday. A. Wells are now making their home in the former J. A. Reeves residence southeast of town. County Judge Clive 8. Cheshire, and Commissioners J. O. Hale and W. L. Meiners were in the territory Tuesday in the interest of roads. Mrs. Allen Beecher, sister of Mrs. Harold M. Thompson, visited in Hermiston Monday while enroute to Wisconsin. Frank Saling of Lexington who was in town Saturday reports that nearly all the wheat in that section has dried up from lack of moisture. Mrs. J. S. Burnham and Mrs. Miles Barager left early Wednesday morn ing for Ellensberg, Wn., where they attended commencement exercises at Ellensberg Normal of which Miss Marjorie Burnham will be a gradu ate. Patterson and family of Bur ley, Idaho, visited friends in Her miston Wednesday. They were mo toring to Salem where they joined their daughter Louise who Is a stu dent at Willamette University. Roy Hyatt and D. G. Erickson, potato growers from Weston, were in town last Saturday looking after business. Miss Nina Boyea and her mother Mrs. Mary Boyea of Los Angeles, Calif., who have been the house guests of Mrs. T. O’Grady fr several days, left Thursday for their home, s Miss Ruth Woughter, who has been teaching at Helix, returned home on Wednesday of last week. The Misses Florence and Eunice Woughter motored to Helix after her. Chas. McKenzie returned last Thursday from the John Day coun- try where he has been working with a sheep shearing crew. Stanton Hadley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hadley of Boardman, spent the week end visiting Miss Marian Henderson at the C. E. Ba ker home. Miss Francis Ranney of Mil waukie, Wisconsin, is the house guest of Miss Barbara Wessell this week. She arrived Wednesday after- noon. J. A. Thomas, who has been visit ing his sou Roy Thomas here for some time, left Tuesday night for Orville, Wn., to visit another son. Dave Mittlesdorf returned to work at the Farm Bureau Co-operative He has been unable to work for more than a week due to a sprained ankle received while playing baseball at Mrs. Neva Pilon, who makes her I home with her father, Harry Spin- ñing, returned the first of the week from a visit with friends in Port land. Miss Anne Kuble, who taught in the local schools last school term, 1 returned from a week's vacation trip to Portland Monday and left early Tuesday morning for her home in Spokane. Wanda and Gene Moore left Wed- nesday for Corbett, Ore., where Geno will spend the summer with his brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Moore. Wanda plans to re turn after two weeks. Mrs. N..I. Morrison of Union, Ore., and family who have been visiting I for more than a week at the home of her sister, Mrs. Jess rindle in the Westland district, returned to her home Wednesday of this week. Dr. F. C. Brosius, physician at Hood River for 34 years and at El gin, Ore., twelve years, is now rail road physician located at Umatilla in the former Reid quarters. M. J. Taylor has purchased five acres east of the old hospital build- ing and is constructing small house, contemplating moving In this week. Mr. Taylor is employed at the Farm Bureau Co-operative. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wilson of Bon neville have been the house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Wagner since Memorial day. They returned to their home Thursday. Mrs. F. C. McKenzie entertained Saturday at a one o’clock luncheon honoring Mrs. E. C. Schofield of Vancouver, Wn. A guest prize was given Mrs. Schofield and high hon ors were won by Mrs. Wm. Shaar. Mr. and Mrs. R. Alexander of Pen dleton were in Hermiston Sunday evening for a short visit with their daughter Mrs. E. P. Dodd.
