Briggs What makes this mysterious qual ity which men call community spirit? "The size of the place." insists the guy who, if he lives in a place of a few hundred, calls it a town; if it has a few thousand, he calls It a city. "The business It does,” answers the man who appreciates the music of the cash register. COME IN, AND LET US SHOW YOU HOW TO SAVE TIRE MONEY! “It’s schools,” says the Individual who Is long on graduation and short on education. "The churches,” adds the pious Individual. "The clubs, by all means,” says the sweet little thing who counts that day lost without a new step learned. “It’s public improvements,” offers the village official seeking commen- dation for his hard and well-done task. But about then a man happens along who has the humanitarian view all others lack. “The answer ’s simple, the spirit of the people make it the spirit of the community.” We, the people, are the town. Is our town sluggish and provincial? Feel our own pulse. Do we need a civic stimulant? Administer it to our- selves. Are we divided Into a hun- dred cliques with no community idea to lead us? Pray that we may have one for ourselves. To quote from the poet: "It's a knock at your- self. when you knock your town. It Isn’t your town, it’s you.” CHURCH NOTES BAPTIST CHURCH NOTES There will be the regular Sunday school hour and Rev. Dowell will preach the morning service, starting at 11:00 o'clock.
