Spokane, Wash.—Soundings of the Columbia River are being taken to ietermine the exact ' contour of the river bottom, according to F. A. Banks, federal engineer in charge of the Grand Coulee construction. For this work, the engineers are using a 28-foot launch, which will also be used in surveying the banks of the river above the dam to deter mine what land will be overflowed. A topographical survey of the en gineers' campsite has been comple ted, and surveys will now be made for streets, and sewer and water sys tems. Mr. and Mrs. Earle Richardson and daughter Vivian of Dallas, Ore., arrived In Hermiston Thursday eve ning and will visit Miss Pauline Stoop and Alfred Quiring. Mr. Rich ardson will motor on to Cove Friday where he will hunt until Sunday when he will return to be on the project for the opening of pheas ant season. Mrs. Richardson and Vivian will remain in Hermiston. Mrs. Henry Harger entertained with five tables of bridge last Fri day night at her home southeast of town. Mrs. D. M.
