ORPHEUM S CHRISTMAS
FEATURE AT OASIS.
Constance Bennett’s latest picture
"Rockabye", which will be shown al
the Portland Orpheum Christina
week, will be on the Oasis scree
this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
During her screen experience
Miss Bennett has played a wid
range of parts and in "Rockabye
the role of Judy Carroll gives her r
splendid opportunity for displayin
her versatile talents. An atmosphere
of sophistication and elegance sup
ply the proper background for he
beauty and gorgeous array of clothe
which, as usual, are pleasing to the
eye as well as an index to feminin
styles.
The story deals with the hectic
love career of an actress, Judy Car-
oil, born in the slums of New York
ity, who, through the efforts of her
manager,, has risen to fame; then a
seandat that smeared her fame with
notoriety. Having reached the height
of her stage career and desiring the
experience of domesticity and moth-
erhood more than anything else in
life, she pauses to adopt a child and
to consider a love marriage. But it
teems that real happiness is not for
her as her shady past Is ever rising
to humiliate her and defeat her
plans. Just what sacrifices are de
manded of a woman who has had a
ast that can't be forgotten is the
uestion that confronts her as she
s about to realize her long cherished
iream of happiness and the emotion-
il turmoil that she goes thru before
she finds the answer to this age
ild question makes you sniff and
irag out the old hanky.
Other members of the cast who
Io fine work are Joel McCrea, Paul
Lukas and Jobyna Howland.
In addition to this feature there
s a short mystery playlet, "Mystery
if Compartment C” and a cartoon
omedy.
