BURGLARS EVADE CAPTURE
B. J. Nation, deputy sheriff sta-
tioned here, and H. A. Pankow, city
police officer, spent most of Thurs-
day on the trail of three men who
were caught in the act of breaking
into the Union Pacific tool house
Wednesday night. A train prevented
Mr. Nation from capturing the in-
vadera and they escaped across the
field before a definite description
was obtained.
The Chevrolet car was left parked
near the scene and contained stolen
I feed, 25-gallons gas and oil, two
guns, clothing, tools, and food. An
Oregon license was on the car which
was traced to the owner who lives
in eastern Oregon. The car may also
have been stolen. Several other state
license plates were found iu the car
and it is evident that the men plan
ned to traveT across country pulling
petty jobs enroute.
One man was routed out and cap
tured but the other two are at large.
The car is in the Black & White
Garage and it is hoped the fugitives
are still in the vicinity.

awarded two scholarships to the 4-H
club summer school to be held next
week In Corvallis to the two most
outstanding club workers on the
Stanfield and Hermiston projects.
The Farm Bureau awards went to
Marjorie Burnham and Glenn Pier-
son, and the Grange award to Clara
Johnson and Marjorie Cooper. All
four, together with Mary Burnham,
will leave Monday, June 13, for

week of summer school with all ex

Mrs. Hart is a graduate of the
Hermiston Union high school and
the Oregon State Norman at Mon
mouth. After a short wedding trip
the young couple will make their
home on a farm near Gaston, Or.

of the new tax recently imposed. At
that rate the automobile salesmen

ton bachelors are in love, they are
something like the little boy who

talking to another gentleman on the
