He urrived last Thurs- i day and is putting in a little extra , time at the Umatilla Cooperative Creamer, during his stay. Mrs. Frank Stone entertained a few members of the American Legion Auxiliary last Thursday night at the home of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Prann. Four tables of bridge were in play during the evening. Those winning prises were Mrs. H. E. Phesely, Mrs. J. M. Biggs, and Mrs. Pete Castric. Mr. and Mrs. B. S. Kingsley have moved into the Antone Soneeon house for the present. Their home was destroyed by fire two weeks ago and Is now under reconstruction. Jewell Smith who has been work ing at Pilot Rock, is home and will spend the Christmas vacation visit ing his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Smith. Mr. and 'Mrs. E. M. Jewell Smith is spending his Christmas vacation with his parents. Ethel McCray has been confined to her home for a few days from ill-’ ness. Her condition Is reported to be no better. One of Mr. and Mrs. Valentine’s infant babies, who has been serious ly ill In the hospital is reported to be recovering. A Christmas program was given i t the Columbia school Wednesday. It consisted of plays and songs, pre sented by each room. The program started at l:« 0 P. M. Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Shockey are the parents of a baby girl born Sun day evening. Mr. and Mrs. Crawford who have been living at the H. Stillings home have moved to the George Tuttle ranch above Cold Springs. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ray are now staying with Mr. Stillings. The judges for the debate tryouts were Miss Elliott, Miss Brierley, and Superintendent McAtee. THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14, 1MJ SUPERINTENDENT MCATEE DELEGATE TO TEACHER'S MEET (From the Bulldog) A state teachers meet w ill be held in Portland, Oregon, December 28. 29, and 30. At the teacher’s insti tute held In Pendleton this fall, Mr. McAtee was chosen from Umatilla county to attend this meeting rep resenting the Principal and Super intendent group. Problems affect ing schools in the whole state w ill probably be discussed. Of the top ics to be discussed, finance w ill probably be one of the most im portant because of the difficulties encountered this year. ♦ ♦ STANFIELD NEWS ITEMS ♦ The Ladles Aid w ill hold Its an nual Mothers and Daughters party in the church parlors on Tuesday, December 29. If you haven't a daughter you may borrow one for the occasion. All are welcome. Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Chapin are guests for a week at the J. M. Richards home. Mrs. S. R. Cooper entertained in formally at her home compliment ing Miss Jennie Albon on her eighty - second birthday. Many friends called to bring greetings to Miss Albon, who, friends declare, appeared younger than usual. The grade school Christmas pro gram given Wednesday afternoon, was well attended. During the Grange lecture hour Monday evening the legislative to pic discussed was. “Should oleo be taxed?” Several members participa ted in this discussion. An interest ing feature of the evening was a "Newspaper N ite’’ celebration. Miss Pauline Stoop of the Hermiston Her ald who had charge of this part of the program was unable to attend the meeting. P. A. Power drew the lucky number which entitled him to a year’s subscription to the Hermls- I ton Herald. Those present enjoyed I the debate, "Resolved that the News paper is of more Benefit to the Wo- I man in the Home than to the Man."
